Once I arrived I found my very interesting hotel and walked to the old town. My first stop was the Franciscan Church. It was nice, but visitors are not allowed to wander around so I could not look at things closely and soon grew bored. I then walked along Kapidulska, the oldest street in the city. Part of it was restored, but the rest looked like you might expect it to. Today is Monday and all the museums are closed. Most of this will be about walking and exploring. I did manage to go to the ...
Bratislava, Slovakia dresdenfaeA mere two days after the last update and we give you another, you lucky lucky people... Enjoying sweltering in Bratislava - Prague´s wallflower little sister languishing under Prague´s golden petticoats. It´s more of a provincial capital as opposed to the heart of a new nation - but charming especially after the hordes of tourists swarming like flies around the astronomical clock and the worlds largest castle (tm the Prague Tourist Board) Until after the first world war Bratislava was known ...

... help planning ahead and having a time schedule. Now I am no longer military, and no longer good with schedules or time management. This showed today. Some things as I will explain, were out of my hands though.

First off, extremely tired. After having only about 4 hours sleep, I was up and on my way to the station. That was easy. The train in Prague was even on time. It all went pear shaped from there. The train was delayed on the line for about ...
Bratislava, Bratislavský, Slovakia danielmataylor... and then make my way to the Bratislava Palace, the 'park' was open until 9, even though I couldn't enter the palace. It is ok, because it was under construction and I don't think you can see much more. I went back to the hostel when it got dark and used the internet at the hostel. I went outside looking for food and found pizza across the street, pretty cheap 3€ for half a pie. Before going to sleep I start talking to the roommates who were from Brazil. They said they ...

Bratislava, Bratislava, Slovakia ruyhiranoThe land that the world forgot - well not really, but you can definitely tell that this was once a communist hot spot. We arrived after an east train ride and then spent about 40minutes trying to figure out how to get into the city (the bus timetables may have been written in Chinese). When we did get onto a bus we landed up going all the way ...
Bratislava, Slovakia cblackwood... take off, I say my goodbyes to America, and we are on our way to Vienna! It was an overnight flight, and they treated us pretty well. Dinner was salmon, mashed potatoes, and steamed veggies, which I was all about :) They showed several movies and dimmed the lights for us. I was pretty worn out from an aggravating day, so I thought I would fall asleep easily. Sadly, I was ...
Bratislava, Slovakia sehuling... s roommate) had bought their tickets ahead of time for 12 euros. Nick and I got there right as the train was pulling out, so we didn't get a chance to buy our tickets ahead of time. When we got on the train, and the ticket collector came around, we got a guy who had obviously just started his job and had no idea what he was doing. As a result, Nick and I got our tickets to Bratislava for 4.50 euros. Libbie was pretty upset that she had paid 12 euros and we had paid 4 ...
Bratislava, Slovakia rbailer... to get breakfast for everryone. They came back with diabetic bread rolls which were like eating cardboard, and juice that tasted faintly like vomit. It's safe to say I was not happy. We went down to tesco for sone proper food, then headed through the old town to the castle. It was a long, arduous walk uphill, and when we got there it wasn't really that impressive BUT... We were interviewed by ...
Bratislava, Slovakia finntopson... a later train. The land between the two cities is flat, mostly farmland, with dark, fertile soil. In the flat fields we saw pheasant and enormous rabbits, the size of small dogs. Bratislava is just over the border, five minutes from the final station in Austria, and the difference between the two countries is obvious and immediate. First visible is the huge, shoebox-like government housing, an efficient home for 100,000 people ...
