The thing that we were reminded of often through the commentary was the age of the buildings and the way things have changed over time. Today Pisa is some 10 kilometres from the coast, but in the 11th century it was a major seafaring town in the Mediterranean. Over the centuries of time, the coast has moved. Quite amazing.
