Josef's arrival and a hike to remember

A travel blog entry by ellabright on Aug 01, 2014

... could communicate with Josef who had told us he was at the Pisa airport at 12. We decided to go and get something to eat, so me and Sophie bought bread, cheese, pesto and salami and had a feast. Our lunch was amazing but it was getting late and we didn't know where Josef was. We were going back and forth from the train station and the hostel check in to see if he had arrived yet and still no sign. By 5 o'clock, we were all irritated and needed to do ...

We were ...

... our ride, as we headed along the Arno River out of the flat plains of Pisa, along a few narrow paths and then up into the Pisan hills, we really start to feel like we are in Tuscany. A few hills to be climbed; we are all challenged in the heat. Marc manages to excel himself with a superb picnic featuring prosecco and fantastic cheeses, and salads. Well fuelled we manage the narrow paths and a few hills to the quiet town of Casciana Terme, famous for its ...

Chianti Region

Today was our last day with the teapot. We headed to the Chianti region, starting at Greve, about 1.5 hrs from here. The Chianti Road (Strada Chiantigiana - highway SR 222) is the famous wine country road thru the vineyards, olive groves and villages between Florence and Siena. Stunning views of the old Tuscan farmhouses and vineyards. Roger says he is done with switchbacks ...
