    ... walked the town.

Dinner was outside with our tour group. Six Aussies and two Aussie hosts who have lived in Italy for twenty years. All local food, simple but very tasty. Warm calm evening.
Walked up many stairs to the highest point for a view of the Sassi (cave dwelling area) and then into bed by 11pm.

    Travelling from Matera to Taormina

Had breakfast at 7.30 am and were transferred by taxis to the coach park in Matera main town at 8.30 am. We drove across the toe of Italy to reach the ferry to go across to Sicily. The ferry runs every 25 minutes and we only had 15 minutes to wait. Was a very interesting exercise. The coach drove into the hold of the ferry and we all got out for the 25 minute crossing to Sicily. Then back again into the coach for the rest of the journey.

... going out to dinner at a local Trattoria - hope it stops raining!

About 8 of us got two taxis up to the restaurant.

Went for dinner and it had stopped raining. The trattoria we went to was so good. The food was unbelievable and kept on coming couldn't eat the dessert in the end. We had a magician to keep us amused that was very funny.

Taxis and back to the cave!
