Bellisimo Italy..what a picturesque, scenic spot
you have hidden from us in the southern hemisphere...
Our first glimpses of Cinque Terre was of
magnificent rocky outcrops, lush green mountains, multi coloured
dwellings, against the blue of the Ligurian sea..
quick change to the local train, which runs back

For dinner we walked into La Spezia and while luckily the rain abated. We ate at a local place. Pasta & bread with olive oil of course :).

CULTURE:
The town seemed a little seedy. It was raining and in the slow season but a lot of places seemed to be shut down. It was here we noticed the condom & cigarette vending machines, ready for 24hr service, that it turns out are common in Italy.

Unfortunately when we arrived from our killer hike all we wanted to do was collapse and find anything ice cold to drink. We grabbed a seat at the first cafe we could find. ... so bad!

Michael had bought fresh mussels (3.50 euro) and prawns (1 euro - yes i know) which instructions on how to cook them!!! I must brag about how good his risotto was ~ amazing!
The weather has been constantly hot here so i was able to top up my tan..... but my bloody legs are stubbornly white! when will they ever learn!

When we come back it wont be in the heat of the summer though....think we will do it at a quieter time of year... watch this space!

... huge wave comes into shore and crashes with enough power and splash to drench Jim and the kids on the walkway they were walking on.. I'm glad I'm standing in a safer area nice and dry watching the action. After some fun on the beach, we head back up to look for a nice spot for dinner. We find a restaurant with yummy-looking pizza.
