Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain tortuguita... are still trying to complete his work! The next day we were up for an easy day so we strolled along La Rambla where there were heaps of mime artists, then headed for some lunch then straight to the irish bar to watch the Americas Cup. Once again a very emotional race and we were all on our feet shouting at the screen at the end. Needless to say it put a bit of a dampner ...
Barcelona, Spain hamishandkatie... couture culture. I know that element is there, but what I found was more of a bohemian presence. To be honest, most of the people were disappointed with this, but I actually am fine with hippy chic as much as I am with urban chic. It´s all good. It´s funny because people who know me well know that I tend to build up certain expectations of certain things, but when I´m traveling I throw preconceptions and expectations out the window... It´s ...
Barcelona, Spain eurorichBarca!
Barcelona, Spain mozi... It is still under construction today. While the construction is a bit of a distraction as far as photos go, the temple looms high above anything else around it. I think Gaudi designed it to seem like it's completely enveloping you as you stand on the sidewalk and take it all in. La Sagrada Família is rich with Christian symbolism, as Gaudí intended the church to be the "last great sanctuary of Christendom". The ...
Barcelona, Spain siren65... 2 bottle of water. After twenty minutes a few of us got tired of waiting and made a break for it walking down the small mountain side. Good times. Needless to say there wasn't too much sun bathing going on at the beach that day. Despite the slight overcast weather, Barcelona was great, there was a great vibe in the streets, lots of great nightlife - especially in the Gothic District - and lots of sights to see during the day.
Barcelona, Spain jay29... line to get into the Picasso museum. I mean, this thing must have been 2 city blocks long. I thought to myself, "Forget it. I ain´t waitin´in that line unless they´re handing out money." Which they weren´t. But then as we got to the entrance of the museum our guide told us that the line was for those waiting to purchase tickets to enter the museum and as the price of our tour included tickets (which he had given to us at the outset) we could go right in. "Halleluja!" From the lecture we ...
Barcelona, Spain danschedler... fountains and the women....yeah. We stay dancing and drinking and laughing in this treasure chest, this babylon hidden well in the heart of old town Barcelona until we watch the sun rise over the tops of buildings we don't know and streets without names. I awake the next morning with another receptionist looking for me. I escape unscathed and find a small cafe to nurse my head with a cappuccino and the already fading memories of the night before.
Barcelona, Spain nomadchef... a headache! It was amazing though. There's a whole museum there with just Picasso. Vera is an art history major so she educated all of us on everything. Then, back to the beach for a picnic! We came home Monday after visiting the old olympic park. It is still used for events so I didn't look too different from anyother soccer field really. The park itself was gorgeous though! Well, three days of class and then off to Madrid!
Barcelona, Spain amybing... left Tours, France this morning and hopped on train after train. When I realized I would be taking trains across Europe I was worried that like last time, they would put me right to sleep. It was ok last time because I was with someone that could wake me up, but this time I have to rely on my watch alarm. So far I really haven't fallen asleep though because I'm just soaking in the environment. For part of the train I was in a ...
