... Salvatore grows oranges, lemons, figs and onions and we were sent off with a bag of these when we left the next morning..... lovely hospitality. From what we saw, Calabria is like the South Coast in the 80s: sugar cane growing on the side of the road, sea sand on the road, low ugly architecture. ... sand. I didn't go swimming so we tried looking for shops to get some souvenirs etc. it was mainly eateries and restaurants. Don was feeling like a hamburger so we tried this modern Italian bar/cafe. Bingo they had a hamburger ( meat patty, prosciutto, tomato and lettuce with chips) I had an enormous salad and as a bonus there was beetroot. We had a bit more of a look at a store which was the first one we'd seen run by Asians. Back to Mammola ...

... to Mammola we took a wrong turn and went to a winding steep road that got Don abit jittery with vertigo. We retraced our steps and found our way back.Back to our room for a siesta and we needed it. I was feeling very bloated and not too well from our overeating in the last few days. ... he rescued us. We followed behind him to our accommodation. There was no way we would have found it. The info given was an area not an exact address and even with that there was no signs saying " Sea Calabria". We settled into our big room and booked tea for 7.30pm. We realised that no one eats before 8-9pm so we were an oddity. The food was plentiful as usual and I have now developed a twitch each time I hear a kitchen door swing open as I hope they aren't bringing more food ...

Ostuni

... lol. We went for a round trip to Alberebello where the Trulli houses are. We had to find our way through Ostuni first then onto Cisternino followed by Locorotondo. These are all reasonably big towns that have many Trulli's. At Alberebello it is quite touristy but there are many Trulli's to see. I was even able to help an English couple get there parking ticket from the machine. That's only because I had lessons from the ticket inspector. It's easy when you know ...
