... is lovely out. Sunny with expected maximum of 3, minimum of -1. Great day to walk (briskly) about this historic city. We headed out for a high point to get an overall look at Florence. We arrived at the Monastero di San Miniato after a very steady uphill climb along a narrow, winding roadway (I loved it!) But it was worth it. Day 2- The Bridges of Venice

Started out site seeing in St Marks Square and then went on a walking tour of some famous bridges in Venice ie; Bridge of Sighs and The Rialto Bridge. Afterwards we all had lunch at the Cafe Florina and discovered a great bottle of Cabernet that is just their "house wine" but is comparable to Opus One. Yum! ... in that church didn't respect the signage. We felt maybe we had to while we were with our guide, but when she left us upstairs to our own devices, we snapped a few pics because it was just too incredible not to. They only turn the lights on for an hour every day, and the lights came on right around the time our guide left us. It definitely changed the way those golden mosaics looked -- from a dim, dreary looking church to a glittering golden church.. just add light!

... ranging from the 1100s through the 1500s. We also saw Casanova's old house which is now the French embassy. We thought that was funny. It was starting to get dark so the lights were coming on in the buildings. It gave us a view of the historic ceilings and sculptures in some of the buildings as we looked in through the windows. It was quite a romantic experience.
