27 December 2014 We are loving hotel living (enjoying it while it lasts!). We had a slow, relaxed start to the day, and breakfast. It's cloudy and cold outside, but we head out around 11am to explore Venice. Catch the ferry to San Marco, and browse souvenir stalls and shops of every description lining the streets and alley-ways. Light rain soon turned into very steady rain, but we wandered on, purchasing a few ...

The majority of the park was fenced off and required a 20 Euro ticket to enter, some expo apparently, but we found a quiet grassy non-fenced area and I got a chance to both have a nap and get sunburned - at the same time - how efficient is that? ... bought some bread ( by the kilo), tomatoes ( dried and fresh), some ham and fresh fruit and after more wandering found somewhere to make our lunch.
For obvious reasons there is not a lot of green space, virtually no parks, and the idea of seating for tired tourists is unheard of. The powers that be clearly do not want us to provide for ourselves, but would prefer we cough up uber-euros in expensive cafés, and there are signs around stating that sitting ...

... island in 1326 because they were considered a fire hazard in the city. What a neat place. Dianne and Rooney had a great time shopping while John and I parked ourselves at an outdoor cafe by the canal and sipped on wine with a few nibbles for over 2 hours. It was great, shady, nice views as we watched the commerce of the canals. I needed a bank today so we went back to San Marco Piazza and shared the square with about 1000 or so people. After the bank, we all had ...
