... of glass shops with signs about their glass not being cheap imitation Chinese glass. Monday 20 I crossed the Rialto bridge which reminded me of the Ponte Vecchio in Florence - where there are shops lining the bridge. The bridge was full of tourists - taking pics of the grand canal, taking selfies, just pondering over the view, window shopping, meeting and chatting with others. We left Tuscany in pouring rain yesterday arriving in Florence to drop off the car with time to spare. A taxi got us to the station where we stored out bags (E5 for up to 5 hours) and went and had a coffee and a pastry in a little side street. Then it started to pour! We retreated back to the station as quickly as possible but not before getting soaked even with jackets on. Unfortunately there are no verandah under which to shelter and the uneven ...

... the rich families that owned them. However, the entrances from the streets behind were for the poor or the servants so were not decorated at all. Halfway down the canal we were shown the building that they sank in the closing scenes of the James Bond film 'Casino Royale'. By this time in the early afternoon the rising high tide had caused flooding outside the cathedral in the middle of St Marks Square. Having heard where the Rialto Market was on our hour ...
