    ... unreal, sun is fierce and not a breath of wind. Afternoons on the balcony are the order of the day, listening to all the birds shouting at each other and arguing over bread dropped on the floor at the cafe by the lake.
    Only downside is having to wait until 7 till the restaurants open. Not easy for two gluttons like us. Had a rubbish meal first night too which is enough to put us in a bad mood for about a week. Italy almost done. ...

    ... our options! After we left Michael and Steve at the train station, we chilled in Como for a bit more, which actually is where I am at the moment.     ... 4 mountain passes. At the top of the first one Paso Falzarego, the altitude was 2100m, temperature 2C and it was snowing quite heavily. The road had been salted which was a relief as we don’t have winter tyres. We stopped at the top of the pass and had a superb cappuccino in a cosy wooden restaurant.

    Paso Pordoi was the final one. It has 33 hairpin bends on the up side and 27 on the descent to Carnazei.

    So to Rome. Perhaps we should have allocated more than just one day to cover the entire city, however Bea has seen it all before so this is a quick jaunt entirely for my sake. I managed to persuade Bea to crawl out of bed to get the 7:42 train into Rome and maximise our limited time in the capital. It was on our arrival at the station that it all started to go wrong.
