Oh how I wish for quality(and ethical) workmanship

... the piece with no oversize in several places(think of an egg shape instead of a circle). We didn't find this out until the machinists started to try to remove material and found that they couldn't, not with the outer diameter dimension we needed. This wouldn't have me so irked except that the reason we're rebuilding this piece is because it wasn't fabricated correctly the first time in China. So we've had an ...

I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Too long btwn updates

... me several hundred extra than selling it right now would. Now it will sit for the summer with the top layer covered. The rest of the time at home was spent cleaning the house, moving furniture to have one extra room as the designated "office" for the two of us, and the other extra room will be an actual guest room, with bedroom furniture instead of being half office. Now we're back in Porto Seguro, for at least until mid-May. More on that in the next post.

EEEK!! Yellow Fever!...and nationalized healthcare

... to the one clinic by 16:35, and the nurse there says that they HAD the shots, but we should've been there by 15:00 to get one. She says to come back tomorrow, they open at 07:30. At this point, I'm a little worried because it seems like they RAN OUT of vaccine. Jacqui tells me that if we went to try to get this vaccine in the U.S., the Dr probably wouldn't even have it in stock. Ok, that's in the U.S. though, we don't get too many Yellow Fever ...

Yep, this is my job...

... my job. I make it possible for the paper mills to take this , and turn it into this , so they can do this to it. All so the people of the world can wipe themselves with something other than their hands and leaves. And also to make the children of the world have to write out homework(I know, I'm evil). I know ...

I have a bunch of random thoughts

Guess what, no rain. And I donīt understand why I sleep all day and I start to complain when thereīs no rain - great song but definitely the antithesis to my mindset concerning precipitation. The sun is out and itīs time to go to da beach. The bad thing about Porto Seguro is that the good beaches are like 6K away. Whatever, I have time and need exercise. As Iīm walking I see all these sand crabs strown out along the beach. These ...

I finally get to watch sports (well soccer)

... opened up yet. I see people waiting outside so I figure the store must open at 8. I look in through the huge windows and I see all the workers standing in a circle in front of the registers holding hands and praying. Lord this country is religious. I find this quite hilarious as I imagine them breaking out of the huddle, clappin their hands and running off to their various destinations to sell food, stock shelves or collect money. The english bloke ...

Itacaré, Porto Seguro, Belo Horizonte e Ouro Preto

... water. But if you pull back ******* both rear straps, you lift back up. They never did get to dip my feet in the water!

Afterwords, I sat on the beach outside the ToaToa and sipped Caiparihnas. We ate lunch there and I had a tasty musserela and presunto grilled sandwich. And some locals kept coming by with grilled cheese on a stick. I don't know what it's called in Portuguese but it was extremely good.

Beaches and killing the coral reef

... and hundreds of people standing in the middle of the ocean on what I thought was a sand bar until I got there and realized everyone was walking on the corral, ahhh, doesnīt that kill it??? I did my best to swim over top of the coral into the internal swimming pools, but I kept thinking about the ecosystem that Iīm pretty sure the tour companies are destroying. At night I went to my first capoeira class and loved it. It was incredible to ...

Portuguese without Tears

... at dusk, workers including school children dig in the sand in the protected areas and the newly-hatched turtles are recovered and taken to the beach in front of the village. There is something really awesome about watching the tiny creatures - around 3 cms in length make their way back to the sea!! Photos later as nobody here has windows xp for me to get them uploaded. Then what does an ex language teacher do on holiday, but enrol ...
