... when the water comes back on at 5:00 pm.

We walked down to the small harbour after our return from Selinunte. There didn't seem to be many fish being caught, though the small boats were coming and going and we could see them dragging nets not far from the shore. Not sure if they have caught our dinner yet. This small town is also reputed to have the best beach in Sicily and is a magnet for university students. Not today. The season ...

... Stazione di Ficuzza, an old railway station now converted to a restaurant. The place was enormous catering to 100s of diners but very efficient and serving tasty food. Lunch is a set menu. ... and drop us off to the Acropolis. It is a long walk, probably not worth taking in a hot summer's day.

Next stop was Segesta. Another 6 Euros, plus E1.50 for shuttle all the way to the top of the hill to check out the Amphitheatre. It was a steep climb, and with the scorching summer sun, it's worth taking the shuttle. On the way down, a walk would give photo opportunities with a different ...

... abandoned in the 1st C AD. Excavations only began in 1950.

Montallegro was needed to identify the area, as Eraclea Minoa is just ruins near the edge of a spectacularly white cliff face. Wandered around, looking at the various excavations and relics recovered. Watched a 2m long black snake glide across the rocks to disappear in some subterranean ...
