We made it! We are in Rome!

Okay, Don and I arrive at Termini Train Station in Rome, Italy. It was very overwhelming! This station was HUGE and understandably so. I asked Don, "So we have two choices from here - take a Taxi or take the subway....are you feeling adventurous?" Surprisingly Don agreed right away with going for it and doing the subway. You have to understand this is a pretty gutsy thing for us to do - neither of us speak a lick of Italian and neither of us had much sleep (Don didn't have any) and we had our...

Our first "Half Day" in Rome

We check into the hotel and this huge rush comes over us both and we both say to each other - "We are in Rome!" It was so exciting and right away we take a picture of each of us on the Balcony of our hotel. It was cool - we open the doors to the balcony and all the sounds and smells of Rome come rushing in! The view was very cool and made us just want to get out and see a little bit of Rome despite the fact that both of us were incredibly exhausted. After that we each take a shower and decide...

2nd day in Rome..

With a good nights sleep under our belt we wake up feeling pretty much adjusted to the time and totally excited to see some major sights!! Our plan today: Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palatine Hill. Weird thing we noticed right away - Italians don't eat breakfast! Seriously. So, Don and I were desperate for some kind of substance this morning - we end up getting croissants and a soda. Needless to say we had a lot of locals giving us very strange looks! After our powerbreakfest we hop on the met...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Hotel Sofitel Roma Rome

Just a step to the spanish steps

from sweetmarie
In a quiet neighborhood this freshly renovated hotel is quite a gem! Your living in the middle of rome and you can strole to all the well known places. And if you are tired take a cab - they are not expensive - to go back to the very nice decorated rooms with a lovely bathroom. The stuff is very helpful.

A lot more than a four star!

from seas0nedtravellers
We have recently come back from Rome where we stayed at the Sofitel for 3 nights. The hotel more than exceeded our expectations. We took our 15 month old daughter with us and the staff learnt her name the first day and remembered all of us by our first names throughout the stay. The buffet breakfast is excellent, the staff couldn't be nicer. The rooms are very nice and beautifully decorated. The location is also great given that you are withing walking distance to Rome's major attractions but away from the noisy Via Veneto where most 5 star hotels are. We had a view of the Villa Borghese and we were sad to leave- Annalisa at the front desk was fantastic and everyone else went above and beyond to satisfy our needs. Having stayed at 5 star hotels in the past, I can only say that this one is very close to being a five star.

Awesome

went for the may bank holiday with my girlfriend and loved it. first time in rome and it certainly will not be my last the hotel was great the staff great the location great, but do bear in mind the 20 odd mile trip to the hotel from the airport, apart from that if you want to have a lasting impression of rome stay at the sofitel. sofitel france good, sofitel roma better. 4 star. more like a supernova!!!!!!!!!

Fantastic Hotel, Great Location

from Hull2005
We had a wonderful 3 night stay during February at the Sofitel. Room was extremely clean and large, with a beautiful view of the Villa Borghese gardens. Safe location and can easily get to all the major sites by walking. Staff was very helpful and even gave us umbrellas when it was raining! Breakfast was diverse and you had your choice of cheeses, cereal, fruit, pastries and lots more. Definitely worth the price for convenience, safety and comfortability. I would definitely stay here again, the Sofitel really made our long days a great place to come back to in the evening.

Fabulous rooms

Stayed in one of the top floor suites in the off season at a greaaaaaat rate that we negotiated on the spot. Fablous views of the Vatican from our huge private outdoor terrace ( about 900 square foot) with lounges, tables and chairs. Beautiful baths with lots of marble and wonderful robes, slippers, and soaps. The perfect place to relax and indulge yourselves in Rome. We can't understand why this hotel ever has vacancies!

Not the best Sofitel ever

from A TripAdvisor Member
Having stayed at other Sofitels I was really looking forward to this one. Not that much wrong with it but I just can't get as worked up as the other reviewers. Good location, nice staff, lovely views from roof top terrace. Room nice but not wow - even though we had a very spacious balcony!! Breakfast certainly not the best I've had but pastries were lovely. All in all a nice 4 star hotel but definatley not the 5 star as one of the other reviewers said. If you don't require a 5 star then it might be the one for you.

Fabulous

My husband, daughter & I spent 4 nights at Sofitel Roma in late September. This is a terrific hotel in a terrific location, a stone's throw from Via Veneto and another stone's throw from the Piazza di Spagna. The extra bed requested for my daughter was in a separate room from the main room and it also came with a TV! They were rooms that you looked forward to coming back to after spending a day walking the streets of Rome. Staff and doormen were always quick to assist. Having stayed in many 5 star hotels, this hotel delivered itself on a 5 star level and not 4 star as rated. Will definitely return.

Wonderful

What a wonderful hotel. The rooms are REALLY soundproof, clean, the bathrooms AWESOME, the breakfast very good, and the staff helpful. I did not find one negative thing concerning this hotel. My luggage did not arrive on the flight and the front desk did all they could to assist me in getting someone from the airline to deliver it. It was great!

Great hotel, great location

Would definitely stay there again.

A peach of a hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
5 star hotel masquerading as a 4 star. Well sited in road off the Via Veneto. Walking distance to main sites. (Recommend Metro from Barberini to stop for Vatican and perhaps walk back into the City Centre). This is a gracious and charming hotel with a comfortable lounge, bar and library! My deluxe room included a separate sitting area and gorgeous bathroom complete with Roger & Gallet toiletries, bathrobes and slippers. Nothing was too much trouble. Early morning tea tray arrived FOC. Presented with voucher for complimentary glass of champagne or favourite tipple on check-in. Wonderful American breakfast in charming basement restaurant. Ate out both nights in restaurants recommended by delightful Emmanuella running the bar. Check for good off season rates, as little as EUR200.00 per room per night inc breakfast. Great hotel offering good service and attention to detail.
