DAY 3 -The ancient and awe-inspiring pyramids of Teotihuacan! Today we decided to put the local transport to the test and head north out of the city to see the ancient and awe-inspiring pyramids of Teotihuacán! This area, also known as the 'Place of Gods' has some of the most remarkable relics of ancient civilisation in the world dating from 300BC - AD600, the builders of Teotihuacán still remain a mystery though. After a pretty naff nights sleep on my behalf due ...
Metroen i Mexico City

From the 3 churches i think the second one is the most impressive. It has the Gothic looks and all the excess from the colony times, with gold, fine woods and very very high domes. The amount of people visiting was huge and therefore the whole seeing la virgen looked more like a market or a public attraction than a sacred ritual. Anyways, I'm not catholic so i guess i see the general facts. Also there is a market ...
(Taken from my Moleskin journal) Right now Jamie and I are sitting at the top of the Pyramid of the Sun (second largest pyramid in the world to the Great Pyramid of Cholula in Egypt) with our feet hanging over the top platform or tier, just below the pinnacle of the pyramid. It's partly cloudy and I can feel the sun baking my exposed legs. There's quite a few people up here. We met some from the Netherlands and two more from ...
Teotihuacán, Mexico jamiericMEXICO CITY AM IN MEXICO CITY NOW - THERE IS PLENTY OF EMAIL ACCESS BUT I AM NOT SURE HOW MUCH TIME THAT I WILL HAVE HERE TO GET ONTO THE EMAIL. WE ARE STAYING IN A HOTEL IN THE CENTRE OF THE DOWNTOWN AREA OF MEXICO CITY - CLOSE TO A LOT OF THE HISTORIC SITES. THIS COMPUTER HAS THE LETTERS WORN OFF OF HALF OF THE KEYS SO IT IS A LITTLE BIT OF A CHALLENGE FOR ME. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THERE IS A LOT OF GIRLIE MAGAZINES FOR SALE EVERYWHERE HERE - SOME THINGS ARE THE SAME ...
Mexico city, Mexico burtonx2... out for my birthday getting ****** in a square with mariarchis everywhere, they usually have at least 2 guitarists and 2 violins and trumpets, people traditionaly pay for them to play for them as a sign of wealth, we were just about to leave when along came a lone mariarchi, that didnt care about tradition and played for us, he then asked sam to play for him and kept grabbing his heart and smiling. He was cool! Yes ...
I had still yet to immerse and really see what a Mexican family was all about. Such experiences are by invitation only. Lucky for me, I got that invitation. What made it even better was that I was invited to two different family reunions, Huitzilopotchli's father's side, as well as his mother's side. On Mexican time, Huitzilopochtli and his cousin picked me up at the arranged meeting spot, the gate for the Temple of the Moon at 8:45pm in Teotihuacán. Soon we were off ...
Pachuca, Mexico autumn... plane left, and we spent them gathering souvenirs, going to rug towns, and the long hassle of getting things mailed back to the US. In Teotitlan de Valle, we visited one rug shop where they showed us cochineal bugs (used to make red dye). They live on cacti. The weaver's son gave one to Andrew and then told him to smash it. It popped like a ripe berry, with a surprising amount of shockingly red guts, I guess. The addition of lime juice turns the ...
