      ... along the Soca Valley - this is so clear - mental note to return next year and camp

      We pay our 5 Eur and set off, talk about butterflies, hope we do not meet anything coming the other way and pray we get the right exit at the end of the tunnel otherwise it will not take long to get to the bottom

      ... to caves. Fascinating stories about how thieves used it as a homebase (and used their knowledge of the caves to defend from attacks) add to the intrigue - Skocjan caves. Wow. Just wow. This alone is worth the trip to Slovenia. Michelle thought like it looked like something out of Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit, but I haven't seen those movies so I'll just confirm the caves are perfectly suited for sci-fi / fantasy and seem out of ...

      ... Slovenia! We drive back down the hill into Italy, then along to Bepi's place to meet the grand kids (gorgeous twins, Gabriella and Francesco) who had the most beautiful eyelashes, so unfair that boys get those! I love that in Italy kids at doted on and the men are so affectionate with them, it's not something we see enough of in Australia. They quite openly kiss and hug and clearly adore the children.
