Vilnius, Lithuania friederbi... concrete edifices that sit alongside the 18/19th century structures. The KGB museum reminds you that this was a country once part of the USSR. Not that that is the only reminder, street name plates have a standard block type font, black letters on a white background. Nothing fancy. In fact the buildings themselves have numbers assigned to them, it reminds me of being in a holiday camp and ...
Vilnius, Lithuania rustyproI always thought that soup was a British thing, I mean if you go into any store there is a mind boggling array of soups available but to be honest I take it or leave it as most of the people I know.

However when I mentioned at lunch today that I wasnt bothered about having soup you could almost here the gasps vibrate around the room. Apparently it is unheard of to have any meal without ...
Vilnius, Lithuania rustypro... border crossing, but also in Panevezys, the town which in terms of size takes the first next spot right after Siauliai. It was not for too long, though, and saying I was in Panevezys may almost be a lie. But to avoid really being a liar, I got off the bus when we stopped, just so I could set my foot on the soil of this town, which with its five hundred and few years was almost a youngster compared to the likes of Vilnius, Kaunas, Siauliai and other ...
Pasvalys, Latvia bonobobanana... architecture is goes back five hundred years and more. We walked by a photo studio and in the window they just happened to put up a photo of Herkus, the Kovas' grandson to advertise their family photos. Vijole and I had lunch in a restaurant that looked much like it would have 300 to 400 years ago except for the credit card machines. Then we drove to her daughter Vidmante's apartment to visit ...
Kaunas, Lithuania victorkubik... page if you want to miss out the tourist stuff and read the rest of this story..... the old town is nice and there's a lot of nice churches. the old town is similar to vilnius really though not on the same grand scale and more run down. in fact the whole town is pretty run down and not a little edgy when you get off the main pedestrian/touristy thoroughfare. i was quite aware of not wanting to look like a tourist in those parts waving my flashy camera ...
Kaunas, Lithuania eolr... which I thought was good of him especially as he had a long queue of people waiting to get on his bus. I knew I had the choice of three bus stops that all said my destination, they were next to each other which helped. The next driver let me on. He seemed to go directly but stopped at every little village and even in the middle of nowhere it seemed. It was a very bumpy ride. I still had views of mostly trees although the villages ...
Siavliai, Lithuania sarahbooth... and what would a Polish BBQ be with out some beer and of course Vodka. So when in Poland do as the Pols do..Nasty stuff, but good fun. As the sun set on the day, it was time to head on back to the ranch. Krzysztof showed us all the pigs and around the farm, then it was time for another smash up home grown meal. On the Sunday Anna was starting to worry a bit about the fact that Ben and I had nothing prepared to talk to the kids about. "don't worry Anna it will all be fine you have ...
