... Bognicka [50]. It was quite small and the frescoes had not fared as well as those in the Church of St Sophia. The saint to whom the church was dedicated carried the head of John the Baptist. There were dragons beneath the cross atop the iconostasis. The frescoes in the apse were the best preserved. The Church of St Nikola Bolnicki was across the street. It unfortunately was not open.

I basically walked around, checked it out, and ate and drank at beach bars. The local lake fish were very good, but I found out after the fact that they should not be serving the trout because it is endangered and illegal to catch on the Macedonian side of the lake (the other side is Albania). I met a couple of Americans stationed in Kosovo, and I would have liked to talk to him more because he had done two tours in Iraq ...

... having said that, the accordion, cello, guitar and violin may have sounded Macedonian, but the medley they played was a mixture of Johann Strauss, The Beatles and The Winner Takes It All by Abba. But it sounded very Macedonian.
