When buying a ticket for the train in India there are several pointers to keep in mind. The first is that women can always go to the front of the line and the second is that she who pushes hardest gets served first.
Our first attempt at ticket buying was Orchha, where we politely stood in line and waited our turn ....an hour later we came to realize that our "system" wasn't particularly successful. Today in Gwalior we came ...
... more as I had heard the cheaper places really were bad and then got a hotel were hotel staff tried to get into your room, where the first room was by the lift and stairs so asked for another one as it was too noisy (and by this time I needed sleep!) only to be given what I later found out was a room above the kitchen and by the service stairs the doors of which they hotel guys decided to open at stupid o'clock and sit there play music and talk v v loudly. So no sleep, not ...
Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India carole91... complex. After visiting the fort and two other temples on top of the ridge, we noted some Buddhist detail on the walls of the ridge below. I included some pictures of them as well. This territory has changed hands many times over the centuries. We left here for Delhi, leaving Central India behind. We are now heading to Rajastan, Land of the Kings.
Gwalior, India schwateThe Main reason i came hear was to watch India V Pakistan The 4th One Day International of 5 . The score at the mo 2-1 India.A lot of the locals think Pakistan will win the 4th as they think it is a fix as India cricket and the sponsors would lose so much money if India win the 4th-I hope their wrong!! Getting the ticket was a bit of a problem-I like maybe you thought most people could speak English ...
Gwalior, India bugs1983... everything it could to make our stay ******, they pull this trick out of the hat. Gwalior sightseeing. We went to see another old fort and palac on a hill 100m above the town. Again quite spectacular architecture and the in fantastic state considering it is 500+ years old. One of the Queen's bedrooms, later converted to a prison (irony?) was 3 stories underground and the ceiling was full of sleeping bats, just 50 cm from our heads. We also went to an old temple that was ...
Gwalior, India mrewkowski... we each planted trees in honor of our visit and were shown the newly constructed latrines. The homes were better than yesterday, with the main sources of income being livestock (lots of baby goats) and making carpets. Some of the houses had even painted beautiful welcome flowers and messages on the floor to welcome us, and it was lovely to see people celebrating the changes, but just to the edge of the old well there was still open sewerage ...
New Merhera Colony, Gwalior, India cemoore... has been the construction of the irrigation wells, these open wells store water from the monsoons, help to recharge the aquifers and are deep enough to supply water even at the end of the dry season. Each of the 17 wells cost 1 lak to and took 4 months to construct by hand. We then returned to the village and listened while the villages discussed the improvements and how it affected their lives. The women were hugely interactive in the discussion asking us ...
Sihgrawan Khurd village, Chhatapur District, Madhya Pradesh, India cemoore... The next room along from the dinning room was the Indian dinning room with meal placings set out on the floor with 2 large settings for the Maharaja and his wife. I left the Palace after sitting outside for a while and having a bunch of school kids look at what I was doing on my digital camera. It was now lunchtime and I found a stall that sold the pastry potato triangle things I liked in Delhi. It had the name of them on the front ...
Gwalior, India glyn... anything at all, just a couple of small snack stalls outside. There were no other places that I could find within the fort walls that did food. After visiting the Golden Temple in Amritsar, this temple was a bit dull but did have a couple of tanks where, in one, children were feeding fish. I walked out of the temple complex and collected my shoes and bought a packet of crisps and a drink from one of the stalls and headed off back to the Man Singh Palace in ...
