Als Tourist hat man dies alles fuer sich. <br><br>Philip II, Vater von Alexander dem Grossen, gruendete nahe Bitola die Stadt Heraclea Lyncestis die bis in die byzantinische Zeit eine bedeutende Stadt war, im 4 Jahrhundert auch wichtige christliche Stadt wurde mit einer Basilika, von der heute noch gute Bodenmosaike erhalten sind. Die Stadt wurde dann von den Goten und erneut von den Slawen gepluendert und verfiel dann.<br><br>Gruss<br>Ralf

... the cobblestone roads to the fortress are great. The pace is slow and relaxing. There is a great path that winds in and out of the beaches on its way to a great old church. The old man giving us a tour is delighted that we are so interested and offers us Raiki (a local brandy).<br><br>After some rain, a beautiful rainbow appears.

Sv. Naum -- September 14<br><br>We decided to take a trip to the southern tip of Lake Ohrid on the Macedonia/Albania border as we heard the monastery there, Sv Naum, was worth the trip. We hopped on the 8:30 minibus to Sv Naum. The trip took about 45 minutes as we drove along the twisty lakefront road. We arrived at Sv Naum a bit queasy, but eager to see the sites. Most of the people on the minibus with us were locals who were headed to Sv Naum ...

We made a short stop to stock up on food and tidbits. At eleven thirty we reached the last conglomerate of New Hollands, John Deere's, Fiat Agri's and their like. At the border. ... t really know how to describe it.. it had onions! I also tried some of Marija's drink called Ouzo, which is Greek. It's something like a Brandy. It tasted like black liquorish. Not my style, but it was warm on the way down. Afterwards we walked up the hill some more to take in the site of the springs. Upon coming down from the hill someone noticed that on the very treetop was a Macedonian flag. I wondered how it got there?! Back ...

... was beautiful and took us from the north side of Lake Ohrid, where Ohrid town is, down to the south side to see the Sveti Naum Monastery. 1.5 hours, 200 dinars. The monastery is cute but not as amazing as Lonely Planet made it sound. It was also packed with tourists, in retrospect right after 2 ferry boats arrive is probably not the best time to visit.
