    ... lack of bakeries until we reached the center of town (at the bottom of the hill), but we were rewarded with a plethora of meat/cheese/spinach/chocolate filled filo dough and croissants!

    Then we went to the vegetable market and met an assortment of charming Macedonian venders. Everyone asked us where we were from, and one guy even gave us free clementines because he was so excited that American tourists are visiting Macedonia! ...

    ... Maybe she can buy a souvenir funny bone. It was to be for 20M but 35M rolled by. The lollygagging of the Brits was the least of my problems. Changing batteries, I realized I had not charged the 'spare' so now I had two dead batteries and most of the day's picture taking in front of me: dumb de dumb dumb.     ... streets listening to music and taking in the atmosphere of the people. I hung out in the main square for a few hours and into sunset. When I had enough ambience of the square I made my way to a kebab stand which I had also gone to the night before. The owner of the place was a friendly guy from Syria. He had only been open for 10 days, so I assumed that he fled his country due to the conflicts it was having. He told me it was very bad over there, and he made me two tasty falafel ...

    ... surprising given it's the smallest country in the Balkans and along with Albania, also one of the poorest. It's the birth place of Mother Teresa and we visited a few statues and the site of her birth. They are building many new waterfalls, squares and statues, which although impressive, look like they belong in Las Vegas rather than in Macedonia. On to Bulgaria ...

    We walked from the bus station here to our hotel - Louise said it was about 5 minutes. With all my baggage, it felt a bit longer - my shoulders were beginning to hurt. I should have taken the bags off while we waited for our room keys but didn't know how long it would take, so I kept them on. I survived.
