... I thought it tasted quite well, so I was a bit surprised when I returned to our hotel room to discover that Nieren translated as kidneys in English. I must say that I really like liver, so perhaps there is somewhat of a similarity. So I ventured out to this restaurant that was owned by a Metzger (butcher) and ordered the saure Nieren (sour kidneys). The menu indicated that it was served with a Salat und Spätzle so I knew that if I didn’t really care for the kidneys ...

... it, but we did walk down Karl Marx street for a hot second. We ate some really amazing food next to a fountain, stumbled onto a street fair, and walked through a huge and beautiful cathedral. Funny story: as we were exploring we were trying to get a closer look at this cool looking building. When we got a bit closer we found that it was surrounded by a large brick wall. The ride back was spent singing the sound of music songs with Gemma being the lead vocalist. We quickly bypassed the wave in the river where people were ...

... team fans were separated from everyone else and essentially in a caged area so that no fights could break out. I also saw police in riot gear walking around! Kaiserslautern won 3-1 and I was right in there standing and cheering them on and booing the bad calls. Definite trip highlight! After that it was back to the hotel to watch South Park in German and then to sleep.

Tomorrow we will be stopping in Munich before leaving Germany behind for Austria!
Gute Nacht!
