... Germany where we wanted to see the Black Forest & get a Black Forest birthday cake in the process but alas, all the bakeries were closed by then. Think we somehow managed to find the Black Forest though? The journey was long but quite nice & we got to see the sunset. Watching dad drive on the opposite side of the road was quite stressful as well x) Ended up having McD for dinner because there wasn't ...

First day trip of the week: Köln. Beautiful cosmopolitan city with cool mixture of old and new. The cathedral is probably the best gothic church we've visited thus far (will have to compare with Notre Dame next week). Lots of people visiting from the Rhine River cruise boats. Yikes! Had a nice walk along the Rhine and delicious lunch, especially the desserts, on the Dom Platz. Oh, one claim to fame in the cathedral is the reported remains (bones) of the 3 magi in ...

Landed in Frankfurt this afternoon, after crazy & crowded connection in Reykjavik. Audra, Matt, and Maggie picked us up. So good to see them. Spent a gorgeous, sunny afternoon in Mainz on the way to their place in Kindsbach (near Kaiserslautern). Learned about the Mainz famous hometown hero, Johannes Gutenberg, and his invention of the printing press. Also, saw one of his original printed Bibles in the museum. Enjoyed a nice lunch on the ...

... though, and it was well worth the pain in my thighs and my lungs! After our climb, we had a beer in a random super German-postcard-looking square, and walked to the bus station. No, we weren't going anywhere...we were picking up Chelsea and Cortney!!! The girls decided to come for the weekend! It's so exciting!! We're going to spend the weekend here and then head to Munich for a few days. Traveling together starts ...

... team fans were separated from everyone else and essentially in a caged area so that no fights could break out. I also saw police in riot gear walking around! Kaiserslautern won 3-1 and I was right in there standing and cheering them on and booing the bad calls. Definite trip highlight! After that it was back to the hotel to watch South Park in German and then to sleep.

Tomorrow we will be stopping in Munich before leaving Germany behind for Austria!
Gute Nacht!
