The place is a big sprawling old Haveli, which was still being renovated into a hotel when we arrived but this did not detract from our great experience here. The rooms were large and clean and cheap (300iR per night bartered down from 1000...10/12/12).
The manager, Uhmed, is a very helpful, friendly and sincere proprietor who will do his utmost to help. My friends and I had some lovely evenings sitting with him and his nephew, Prabha, having a meal together. The mosquitoes do get a bit annoying though.

I had never seen a desert so far in my life. Though I have been to Tibet, I am guessing it qualifies more to be barren than a desert. So when we planned a trip to Rajasthan either Jaisalmer or Bikaner had to be on the agenda. We picked Jaisalmer as it seemed to be more touristy and we thought we would rather be in a touristy place. But in hindsight …

... Wranglers? I'm scared to say "jockeys" because hasn't that term become derogatory? For 6 camels for some reason I didn't require a jockey?? There and back in fact and I didn't get the same camel. I guess they saw in me as an avid, majestic camel rider and did not need assistance, right? Camels are strange to get on and off of and you are soooo high up, Gail is afraid of heights so her normally adventurous spirit was curtailed a bit. We saw Peacock, which I ...

... had bad breath and I found it really funny. Before raj had walked close to my camel and I enjoyed touching his face also hoping he would not bite me, I thought he liked it and that's why he walked so close but Kirsty did not touch him and he still went close to her and her camel. We arrived at base camp, set up and fire and took pictures of the rolling dunes which was cool. There were these big beetles everywhere which walked around and then buried their beetle faces ...

... way down. Once at the ATM, he even offered to take her back up but she explained that she need to find a shop to buy bananas (my staple tummy-quieting diet). “No problem! It’s on the way”. So off they set again, but not to the shop.

Instead, he took her to his hotel, and when she demurred a little from entering, did not press her, but simply said he would like her to see it. It looked lovely, so in she went and he offered her coffee ...
