The place is a big sprawling old Haveli, which was still being renovated into a hotel when we arrived but this did not detract from our great experience here. The rooms were large and clean and cheap (300iR per night bartered down from 1000...10/12/12).
The manager, Uhmed, is a very helpful, friendly and sincere proprietor who will do his utmost to help. My friends and I had some lovely evenings sitting with him and his nephew, Prabha, having a meal together. The mosquitoes do get a bit annoying though.

I had never seen a desert so far in my life. Though I have been to Tibet, I am guessing it qualifies more to be barren than a desert. So when we planned a trip to Rajasthan either Jaisalmer or Bikaner had to be on the agenda. We picked Jaisalmer as it seemed to be more touristy and we thought we would rather be in a touristy place. But in hindsight …

... headed back to the hotel and the guy took Jen off on his motorbike to 'the best pharmacy in all of Jaisalmer' and sorted her out with some tablets. We ventured out once more in the hot dessert heat and went to explore. Compared to the sprawling, dirty, smelly, noisey city of Jodhpur, Jaisalmer was small, clean and relaxed. It is in the very Northwest of India not far from the border with Pakistan and as such there was quite a large military presence with numerous baraks on ...

The air gets sucked through the length of the hole and they feed it slowly from one end to keep it hot - so efficient and simple. We had a beer and sat around the fire chatting. The camel herders didn’t eat until we had finished - there was a 9 yr old amongst them who is driving my camel (sits behind me) he worked all day and all evening with no complaints. My girls row about Megs spitting toothpaste ...

The couple got off in Jodhpur, and their places taken by an elderly male doctor and his wife who were returning to Delhi, where they lived. The rocking of the Delhi-Jaisalmer Express lulled me to sleep in seconds. I slept well that night. In fact, it was my best sleep to date whilst in ...
