The place is a big sprawling old Haveli, which was still being renovated into a hotel when we arrived but this did not detract from our great experience here. The rooms were large and clean and cheap (300iR per night bartered down from 1000...10/12/12).
The manager, Uhmed, is a very helpful, friendly and sincere proprietor who will do his utmost to help. My friends and I had some lovely evenings sitting with him and his nephew, Prabha, having a meal together. The mosquitoes do get a bit annoying though.

I had never seen a desert so far in my life. Though I have been to Tibet, I am guessing it qualifies more to be barren than a desert. So when we planned a trip to Rajasthan either Jaisalmer or Bikaner had to be on the agenda. We picked Jaisalmer as it seemed to be more touristy and we thought we would rather be in a touristy place. But in hindsight …

... Naveen said to not go near it as they wont tell you that it's the "special" kind. Later, when we were atop the Fort talking, I asked if he tried it and with his guide face on said, "no". I then asked again, "have you tried it?" He said, " Ya, ok once when I was a teenager, I came home and my mother knew, so she slapped me and I laughed when she did, she locked me in my room and I laid in bed for two days and I just could not stop laughing" Man oh man three days of ...

The two Australians passed on the trip as they weren't feeling well ( more on that later). It really wasn't that interesting visually and I do have pics on my other camera, but I did manage to snap off a shot ( before getting yelled at) of the set of the Indian version of "Game of Thrones" called Ashoka, also a great surprise. I sat most of my time there watching the filming as the rubble was no interest ...

Rolling Dunes and a Camel Safari

... It took about an hour to arrive at our dessert camp which was another small walled area with a central courtyard, surrounded by mud huts. We had a look round one of the mud huts and had a cup of Chai (Indian sweet tea made with milk) before we embarked on our dessert safari. We were to be taken into the dessert on camels so we all had our own beast with a guide. Our camels were called Bubbloo and Saya. Both seemed a little tense when we first got on but after ...

... and I half expected someone to be in our berths as the train had travelled overnight from Delhi. We had side berths separated from another 4 berths the other side of the corridor through the carriage. Gem had the bottom one and I had the top one. We pulled our curtains across and had some privacy - enough for me to grab some sleep for an hour or so and Gem to relax awake.

During the journey I spent most of the time up top and catching up on the blog. Gem was ...
