... in various types of military uniforms passed by and they wanted to be photographed with me while they were wearing my hat and I wore one of theirs.

We also had an interesting if a bit sad conversation with a woman selling cheap bracelets to tourists. I would have guessed this woman to be around 40 years old but she claimed to be only 21. Further, she was the mother of four (live) children (3 others had died). She got married when she was 15 to a husband 20 years ...
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India bangkokrandyWe reached the Jaisalmer station before dawn. This desert destination is a must visit for all Rajasthan tourists, so you may find some unwelcome people who will try to provide you help in searching hotels; these are often touts so beware of frauds. We had our booking in one of Yatra recommended hotels- Priya. This hotel has good rooms with all modern facilities and very close to the Golden fort.
<br ...
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India somnath... you "get" in a tour that are totally unrelated to the tour itself... you are getting screwed. This tour offered (aside from camels) dinner and a turban (a fact pointed out at least 10 times) and while I'm sure a turban is nice, that's hardly a reason to go through the charade of a Jaisalmer camel safari. Basically the tour was to take a jeep to a few small places, ride a camel for an hour, sleep in a large carnival sized ...
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India volitare88... in which we frequently lost sight of each other and kept in touch by shouting in the crowd i finally managed to find a railway official who confirmed that AE was A1 and some angel opened the door. count on the indian railways to make your holidays exciting. we reached jaisalmer and i nodded to the first fellow who asked if we wanted a taxi. 10 rupees per head, he said. it was a nice well maintained seven seater and i enquired at least 10 ...
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India anishawasthi... had enough. We all decided to go back, much to the pain of the guides, even the two dumb British girls who had paid for two nights were against staying another. One night in the desert was enough for us, it would have been nicer without the sandstorm., but I guess it made it an interesting experience. Overall, it was a great time. It was fascinating to see so many camels up close. After a couple of days back in Jaisalmer we were on our way to Nepal.
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India mericanomad... but some restored, including some large and beautiful havelis built by rich merchants of old. The fort and town are fascinating places to wander, although rather hassled. Everyone wants you to take a 'camel trip' with them....we sort of thought about it...but we had such an amazing time in the sahara, we're not sure we can top that. So instead we decide to ...
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India natsandfrancois... when we arrived he was all out of room at 300, 1500 was the cheapest room. At least we had made it into town and so far we hadn't spent any money. We started walking and soon arrived at a place that seemed clean and quiet and reasonable so we agreed to stay there. The main reason to visit Jaisalmer is to organise a desert camel trek, so that was our first job. After eating we visited a few tour operators asking them about the tours they ...
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India martin84... and ate chapatti and relaxed during the day. He tells us he did a couple of runs himself although I reckon he was understating his involvement! He also informs us he is head teacher of the "camel college" we have been hearing about from the boys for the last few days. They are mostly uneducated and pick up all their english as apprentices on the camel trail. Of course, once they are able to communicate with the tourists they can run their own ...
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India iaintara... turbans, weapons, betel nut cutters, paintings drawn onto a piece of rice amongst many more random Rajastani pieces and we were guests of an intriguing tour led by the owner of the museums, a proud, eccentric former teacher with giant hairy Elf ears who told us all about the opium trade, the art of making love and showed us the Kama Sutra written in original ancient manuscript. Outside the museums we were asked by two street boys if we wanted to see their ...
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India inoursuitcase... as a mark of respect as a lady had died so all near her house close for 4 hours. I found that quite moving, you wouldnt get that at home would you? Had apple pie (DK) apple crumble (me) and 2 coffees - 105 Rps Was good good good.
We had found a nice internet shop near the palace so checked all our onward journey details, mailed home and sat chatting to the shop owner, Durk Singh. Nice man. Went to Ghandi Chowk and had a look around there, found the restaurant where we have ...
