The place is a big sprawling old Haveli, which was still being renovated into a hotel when we arrived but this did not detract from our great experience here. The rooms were large and clean and cheap (300iR per night bartered down from 1000...10/12/12).
The manager, Uhmed, is a very helpful, friendly and sincere proprietor who will do his utmost to help. My friends and I had some lovely evenings sitting with him and his nephew, Prabha, having a meal together. The mosquitoes do get a bit annoying though.

... pops and bangs from the fireworks it was "different" The toilet at the restaurant - now that is a health and safety disaster waiting to happen, basically it's a room that hangs off the side of the building at level 4, and when you go into the toilet there is a huge crack down one side, it looks like the whole room is just ready to fall off ! Back to the hotel (garbandh palace)and it was only 8.20pm far too early to go to bed so we hit the bar and ordered cocktails !     ...

        "Is that a bloke?"
        "I don't think so"
"Look at the feet and hands, I'm 70% sure it is."

She started dancing closer to us, making eye contact with me and suggestively shaking her hips.

        "Jen, I'm 90% sure, she's a he."

She danced over to me and put her huge hand out and pulled me onto the dance floor.

A long night for me but I think I'll survive. Diane had eaten exactly the same things as me yesterday, except for the omlette, so I'm thinking that is the culprit. Back to tea, toast and a banana to keep my potassium levels up, and we're off to Jaisalmer. The roads were in much better shape for this trip. We stopped at a quarry where they were taking out granite or basalt rock and cutting it and/or carving it. There were an awful lot of stone fence posts along ...

The two Australians passed on the trip as they weren't feeling well ( more on that later). It really wasn't that interesting visually and I do have pics on my other camera, but I did manage to snap off a shot ( before getting yelled at) of the set of the Indian version of "Game of Thrones" called Ashoka, also a great surprise. I sat most of my time there watching the filming as the rubble was no interest ...

Jaisalmer is a good 14 hours by car from Jaipur, which I covered in our last blog entry. Fortunately, there is a smaller, but no less notable city about halfway between them called Bikaner. What sets this city apart is its holy place, Karni Mata, known as the rat temple.

Picture this. A smallish building in which thousands of rats live. They roam freely, are everywhere, even underfoot. To top it all off, you wander this temple ...
