Modern Market Bikaner, Rajasthan, India, 334001, 91-151-2544502

A presto.
Bikaner, Rajasthan, India marcozio... a remote village in the desert. We were served camel milk chai, an acquired taste I assure you, Amber nearly threw up, while his many children ran around completely exhilarated by our presence, rubbing my hair and laughing uncontrollably.

The desert is truly an awe inspiring sight, a vast sea of sand interrupted only by the odd shrub or tree. Antelope grazing on the sparse greenery would watch us meander by, then in a flash disappear, almost skipping as they ...

Bikaner, Rājasthān, India seorajeshkumar... of Health would've closed the place down in a heartbeat. We quickly got turned away from entering the innermost part because we were not of Indian descent. This country has no divisions between church and state, really, as it were. At least it doesn't seem like it. Their temples are even more prevalent - if that's possible - than Virginia's churches! We had taken off our shoes before entering the temple and it was a bit unnerving to watch ...
Bikaner, Rajasthan, India mikela... food arrived worryingly quickly but tasted average and left no lasting damage. The hotel did offer breakfast at least so we had eggs and toast (most of our breakfasts in India have been either eggs in various forms or stuffed paratha with curd). We left the hotel at around 9am and our taxi took us to Deshnok Karni Mata Temple, aka The Temple of Rats. We had to remove our shoes and we paid a small donation to the shoe kiosk for some foot covers to ...
Bikaner, Rajasthan, India tomandchrissy... we entered the temple. Karni Mata temple is famous for being home to thousands upon thousands of rats. Not plump cute rats (which do exist), but small skinny greasy not-all-alive rats. The temple wasn't big, so I wanted to get out of the way quickly to be as unobtrusive as possible - there were people using temple for its intended purpose. The rats played (fought?) around giant bowls of milk, darted in and out of holes in the walls and floor, and scampered across the tiled ...
Bikaner, Rajasthan, India waynekreger... bus. Then we made our way to the public bus station where we caught a bus without any ado and were soon on our way to Deshnok. 45 minutes and a mass of hot, talking bodies later, we stepped off the bus and made our way into the tiny town. The temple is really easy to find, but there's not a rat on it. We took off our shoes (as you must in all temples) and made our way into the mystery. The story behind this temple is that Karni Mata (which, Travis tells ...
Bikaner, India youngtravellers... on our own. We lasted approximately 9 minutes before someone from our hotel came tearing down the dirt/mud road, insistent that we tour the havelis with him. We saw three (plenty) and met a nice couple who told us of the history of their haveli (the man in the photo grew up there). After that, we were a little bored, but managed to find some interesting people: Frank, a German in India for business, and two ...
Mandawa and Bikaner, India elizabethg... choices So tonight, we hop aboard another night train, which by chance, originates from here. As we wait for the train to come in, fireworks explode everywhere. Is this to say goodbye, is this for the wedding celebrations, or are they celebrating the circumcision of the young boys !!! This, we will nefer find out, and hopefully, even though we are not holding our breaths, nobody will be in our bed, or I will be the bear who states, WHO IS SLEEPING IN MY BED !!!
