Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India sushilojha... he gave the brass container to Matt-- by far one of the coolest items we've aquired on the trip. The whole of Rishikesh is solidly Hindu, and this would not be our only religious experience in this city. On a walk down the aforementioned foot path to a sitar concert, we ran into a sadhu named Swami. For the past few days (and for the next few days) Sarah had been having these painful, day-long headaches. We told Swami about them, and he proclaimed that he was a Reiki ...
Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, India mattarah... Piper. The waterfalls were a 3 or 4km walk away, and rather foolishly we set out in the midday sun. Rishikesh is cooler than Delhi et al, but around high noon the sun is still a fearsome and worthy adversary. Much sweating was done as we trudged towards our destination. We didn't care much, as the walk was fairly spectacular. The road overlooked the Ganges for 80% of the way, and we had prime views of the rapids, the ...
Rishikesh, India lnb203... and hopefully the guard wont recognize us. Although I (Rajiv) am realizing that I put too much importance on seeing where past events like that took place. We are now in Delhi catching up with family and our next stop is Dehra Dhun where we have signed up for a 10 day Vipassana Meditation course. This is the same course we did in Canada a few years ago - the one done in silence. All will be quiet on the blog front for a while after this.
Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, India kalsi_kaur... body between day/left side and night/right side.....I was told we breath more strongly through our left nostil during the day and vice versa at night. Okaaay, a little scepticism creeping in but too late to back out now. I was then asked to depress my left nostril and breath deeply and rapidly through my right one. Two minutes of souding like a telehone pervert and my harmony was restored. But that wasn´t the end of it. Next came the chanting. You really know you´ve left ...
Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, India kealderra... because they have the USB ports disabled, bloody *******s. Heading out this evening to Calcutta to meet my Mom on Monday evening. It's going to be a long train ride to Calcutta, 32 hours! But at least it is in the "upper class" portion of the train. Craziest thing I've seen today: 6 people riding on 1 scooter!!!!!! (2 adults, 2 kids, and 2 babies) Indians take the idea of carpooling to a whole new level. namaste ji
Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, India quirk... stretched out. The ride lasted for hours, and was the most fun any of us had had yet. Back at the entrance, there were a few elephants the park managers had kept captive with chains around their feet. They were used to haul brush and probably give rides to tourists. We had a boxed-lunch which consisted of some kind of heart-shaped fried patty, an Indian-style burrito, a coleslaw sandwich, a banana, and a chocolate bar. A cow stood by the ...
Dehradun, India adomingo4... eventful journey that nothing is possible and complete without His grace and presence. I do not see Him but always feel that He is there by my side. He manifests in the beauty that is there so much everywhere. He is there in the smiles of pretty little flowers that bloom in the wilderness. I see delicate poetry written in everything of His creation which only His tender hand tirelessly at work can create. We are only an infinitesimally small and ...
