... founded by the sixth Guru Sri Hargobind Sahib. Here the seventh and eighth Gurus were born and brought up. It was here that Guru Gobind Singh along with his followers received the sacred head of the ninth Guru Sri Tegh Bahadur, brought from Delhi with great devotion and respect by Bhai Jaita in 1675. The particular spot associated with and sanctified by it, is known as Gurudwara Babangarh Sahib. The tenth Guru took the sacred head of his father ...

The dreaded throat infection strikes again!

Day 205 Thurs 1st June 2006 The dreaded throat infection strikes again! I got up this morning at 10am, and although I was dripping with sweat, I was feeling much better, I checked my throat this morning as it was really sour and I wasn't surprised to find an infection. Soma was off on one of his famous wonders so I took the Bullet up to Nakodar to get my self some medication. When I came back I started recording some really old Panjabi Folk songs from tape ...

Punjabi timing at its worst!

... traffic around, I didn't think anything bad was going to happen, but if it did it would be a while before anyone found me! Oh I did see two trucks side swipe each other about 10 meters in front of me at one point. I got back to Pind for around 10pm, the TV guy hadn't been to fix the dish, but that doesn't surprise me. Today was a long a draining day, the heat is a killer, it makes everything you do take up 10 times the amount energy it normally would.

Updating the website.

Day 197 Wed 24th May 2006 Updating the website. I slept in uncle's room last night, I didn't get much sleep but then that was to be expected I suppose. I got up around 10am and just chilled most of the morning. I made my way to the office around midday. I was going to get Kittu to have a look at the bike for me to see if he could solve the cold start problem, he told me his ...

... Tibetan schools across the country to teach. He also told me about the struggle for independence that the Tibetan people have undergone since the Chinese takeover in 1959, apparently the Dalai Lama lives in exile in Dharamsala. There are a lot of Tibetan refugees in this area, many have settled further a field. I stayed up there and talked to him for a while but then I remembered the Larries were still waiting for me. We went back to the hotel and got packed up, we were ready to ...

Darshan Uncle comes home.

... I ever do when I'm here is get that thing fixed! When I got to Basti I took it over to Kittu (the mechanic) and told him to sort it out. Uncle's flight was due in to Amritsar airport at 9pm, it arrived on time and they arrived home at 1am, they took their time driving back because of uncle's ill health. It's been a few months since I last saw Uncle and I really didn't know what to expect. He is in quite a bad way, the operation he had done in Delhi obviously didn't work as ...

... with the minister who then gave us a brief tour of the village. He had graciously taken time from "International Woman's Day". He gets a day off from his government work. He showed us his parent's memorial garden and the girl's college he founded (sewing, computers and hairdressing) and then he tried to give me these poor girls handiwork. I just couldn't accept his offer. They work too hard for some foreign chick to take their school projects. We were taken on a ...

... if they make it to Kathmandu, the UN can issue them refugee permits... or turn them back. This is a slight digression, but we listened to one monk talk about his own trip through Nepal, during which he and several other members of his group were shot by Nepalese officials - the police can get good money either from the Chinese government or Tibetans in Kathmandu in return for handing them over... Sad). Luckily, Tsering and her group made it to Kathmandu without being caught ...
