december 17, 2006 on my first morning in chittagong, i pulled the drapes apart and looked out upon sheikh mujib road and saw pretty school girls waiting for the bus and sidewalk shops selling sweaters. it being a hell of a lot colder than thailand i decided to go down to the road and buy a sweater. i found a good one. i offered 100 taka and he took it right away. i should have offered 50. the hotel breakfast consisted of fried veggies, chapatis, and homemade tea. it was quite nice. if you com...
Chittagong, Bangladesh soidogdecember 18, 2006 hole number 1: 500-yard par 5 it's a gentle dogleg right. rather narrow at the tee with a little bit of room to the right for slicers cut off sharply by a steep forested mountain. on the left is a row of leafy trees to keep you from killing the golfers on fairway number 7. i gave up power and went for accuracy (pick a target and follow through to the target) and threaded the needle right up to the knee of the dogleg. good shot sar, said the caddy. "sar" is bengali for "sir"....
Chittagong, Bangladesh soidog... in 1963 called Bangladesh Bible Correspondence School in which they use some Emmaus courses, some Source of Light, and some of their own. The go all over the country working to see if they can get people to study the courses. Each year 3000 courses go out and they have about 45% completion rate.

While we were here we were able to go to a student rally where about 120 students came for a morning of learning and those who had completed 4 courses received their ...
Chittagong City, Chittagong, Bangladesh ecsflemings... official port pass. Unfortunately, the ship captains (of which we spoke to 10) were not as impressed by the paper trick as the security and promptly asked us to leave their ships. We then took matters into our own hands and surreptitiously hopped onto the back of one boats to find a place to stowaway for the journey to Singapore; however, it turns out that stowing away is not as easy as it seems and we were caught within seconds by three crewmen, who ...
Cox's Bazar, Chittagong, Bangladesh steveandwill... woman throwing up a la 'The Exorcist'. Avoiding the smattering of touts we found a place to ditch the bags, then headed out to see what the place had to offer....finding a local eatery, fascinated by the foreigners, but with a young waiter who wouldn't have been out of place in Oliver Twist, taking to the task of serving us with great relish. The least I could do was find him a place on the 'pod! After an excellent sleep, we ...
Cox's Bazaar, Bangladesh thehog... built in the Burmese style. Once back at the hotel, the other three rickshaws eventually arrived back. It seems that their drivers were ****wits and went somewhere else !!! So it made sense to go to the beack, at least we wouldn't get lost. The three of us set out, as the others went for lunch. Along the way, we crashed a little cricket game. The bat was home made, and the fielding from the locals was ******. Maybe this is why the Bangers team is so ...
Cox's bazaar, Bangladesh uncle_davros... inside. We donated some money but as we were leaving the little bugger asked for more, then where we had left our shoes, an old guy had taken them somewhere else and demanded money to get them back!!! Cheeky monkey! We went back to find the others had been taken somewhere else. Oh well, at least they had seen something of the town! We decided to check out the beach and said we would meet everyone down there. It was only a 5 minute walk from our hotel. On ...
Cox's Bazaar, Bangladesh lucinate... shots of bloody bodies. I must say this freaked me out somewhat, but it was nothing compared to the book he later showed me, called "Rape of a Nation". It contained some horribly graphic photos of corpses and rape victims, who were members of the Awami league. The book seemed quite professionally made, with text in Bangla and English, and glossy pages with full colour photos. It was obviously written by the Awami league trying to highlight ...
Cox's Bazar, Chittagong, Bangladesh will... Need more be said? How much does this auspicious opportunity cost? 120 quid. It sold out months ago. You know it makes sense. NO FUN. NO FUN AT ALL. We promised you our latest favourite forms of transport in our last update. And you've convinced us you are dying to hear them. As Mr & Mrs R are not ones to disappoint a crowd, here they are: In 68th position, and our only aquatic entry, is the boat journey between Unguja and Pemba in the Zanzibar archipelago ...
Chittagong City, Chittagong, Bangladesh mrandmrsrontour... as providing us with accomodation and the cleaning services of his maid, he's ferried us from home to cricket to local places of interest in his brand spanking new car. He organised seats for us in the elite Chittagong Club enclosure at the M. A. Aziz Stadium. And has generally, provided more hospitality than Soft Mick. All that's been asked in return is the occasional cuisine a la Mr & Mrs R. We've cooked ...
