Nature at its finest... Blackie photos

Tonight we went to the malecon to look for Blackie and found her and her buddies. While she comes up to us for affection and treats, she is not going to be leashed any time soon. And I'll try to get better pics for the vet the next time we see her. The wound is sand and ooze and not as easy to see as earlier today.

The dance was interesting tonight, though. It is clear that Whitie is now in heat. So there is this ...

What the heck is 'Callo de Hacha' ???

... We then sautéed the scallops and added onion/pepper into both the potatoes and scallops. And served it all up with bread and virgin garlic oil that we'd just bought - wow!

No pics today so I'm including a video clip. We've seen several men 'line fishing' and it seems to be quite an art. I think this guy is fishing for bait... sorry for the rough footage.
La Paz, Day 9

... that could possibly be a time share. The rooms I saw were all quite adequate for your typical dive vacation. They aren't five star, but Cantamar never billed themselves as that either. If that's what you want, I saw a new resort going up in La Paz that will be happy to take about three times the money from you! Cantamar's buildings are all finished in a warm, pinkish rose colored stucco finish and were all in very good condition. The ...

La Paz, Day 7

... 30 feet of the surface. You could see the rocks below as we motored over it looking for an anchor point. Excited for another day's diving, we quickly geared up and hopped in. Some decided to sit this one out, so Marylou and I were joined on this dive by Jill Keeler. We descended the anchor line and it didn't take us long to find some great photography subjects. We found a few nudibranchs, a snail of some sort, and numerous tropical fish. What ...

La Paz, Day 5

... of some of the best pico de gallo I've had. Great appetizers and drinks for happy hour last night, after a day of hiking around town. No worse for the wear, this morning came and all of us were eager to head out on yet another diving adventure on this our 4th day of diving (5th of the trip). The weather was terrific this morning and the seas were quite calm, so we decided to make another go of diving at El Bajo. Not only was the weather good, but we ...

La Paz, Day 4

... out a real estate office, it's unfortunate to see that higher housing prices have already arrived. A quaint little beach front vacation home can be had for as little as $400,000 US. Yikes. Guess we'll scratch this place off the list! Downtown was full of small shops selling the usual tourist trinkets. There was a ton of great pottery and the likes, but I was really at a loss as to how I would get it home! My primary suitcase ...

La Paz! We're in the big city now!

... Loder's for awesome food and to Mara for her enthusiasm and great advice!) As we started this trip I was sure we would meet interesting, likeminded people but I guess I didn't realize how hard saying goodbye every day would really be. Anyway I see it as a blessing that we are only a few days into our trip and we have already met such amazing people! For some reason the days on the bike get kind of blurry for me at times, I'm sure Jess can fill you in on the details of ...

... now part of the exclusive club that could afford a cabin, it meant we got to get off the boat first too!!!! We got a shared taxi into the centre of La Paz as there was no sign of the bus, we had asked to be dropped off at the Spanish school where we wanted to take lessons, but the taxi driver dropped us about 15 blocks outside of town at the wrong language school. We had a long hot walk with our ...

The denuded hills surrounding the town bear testament to the thousands of poor living here. Many of the hills have been fortified with thousands of half-buried tyres to prevent the soil from washing away.

Having walked through the concrete maze we passed through a turnstile and were ejected onto a street where hawkers were selling sombreros and toy ...

"As long as the bird doesn't return hungry."

We hiked across the isthmus, then climbed up the rocky walls to a natural archway. There, we found a giant raptor nest. We thought at one point that we heard the bird call from far away, but it never appeared. Maybe Keegan and Kyla looked too threatening.
