    We took advantage of a break in a thunder shower to explore ruins of the Priamar fortress which is built on a hill near the harbor. In 1528 Savona was conquered by Genoa; the city was ransacked and the beautiful cathedral on the site was demolished. In its place the Genoese built an immense fortress.     We are at sea today writing this portion of the blog as we head for Casablanca, Morocco on the northwest coast of Africa. Savona was a surprisingly delightful Italian port city.     ... probably guessed by now that this is my first cruise, so please be patient while I gush about it! I always thought that ship cruising was for the "newly wed and the nearly dead" but this has proved me wrong, with lots of different demographic from the young (not many) couples with children (still not many) and then onward and upward to the "nearly" - The majority it seems are in our age group, "young?"
