3 Days in Kuala Lumpur

... table, and a night light. Now these things may seem insignificant, but they make such a difference (I think anyway, although Kate wasn't too bothered). You can read at night when everyone else is in bed asleep, or charge a laptop or camera in a locked compartment while your out getting breakfast; simple things like that. It was £6.50 per person per night, which was fine. That's quite reasonable for a big city, and half of what we paid in Jakarta.<br><br>Anyway, we ...

The Beginning

... again on my way to a bus station in KL a few days later.<br><br>Once I arrived to KL, I met with Nikki and Sarah, who were staying in Wheelers Guest House in the middle of China Town, complete with a rather unconvining lady boy on the front desk. Nikki and Sarah, who've been travelling for two months already, said KL is the most westernised place they've been so far (e.g. plentiful supply of chocolate and a KFC on every street corner) so it seems I'm being ...

The Two Towers...and no burn of my ring...

... 3 hours for 6 ringgit on package deals. To put the hotel crappiness into perspective, a bottle of 'complimentary' (tut) mineral water in your room is 3 ringgit (60p-ish), by the 'g' is 6.40 (about 1 pound 20p), and in a shop is about 20p...<br>Food is lovely here so far, although my experience of it is clearly limited at the moment! I have eaten some spicy stuff too, but no burn of the ring yet!<br>I'm off to Chinatown tomorrow, ready for my first ever night in a guest house. Wish them luck!!

Southeast Asia: A Recap

There are probably some social circumstances which I don't know about which makes me feel as though the people here aren't as nice as they could be. But anyway, it's my experience so it's all subjective. <br><br>The place which made the most emotional impact: Tie between Bali and Cambodia. In Cambodia, in a span of just 4 days ...

Lumped with Kuala Lumpur

... had been designed in a supposedly trendy minimal style with grey concrete walls and a stone floor, but as it only had one very small window which was above eye-level, it felt as if we were in a dungeon. The woman that managed the hotel was pleasant enough, but we were given the third degree every time we came in or went out. She insisted on knowing where we going, where we had been, what we were having for lunch and what we were carrying in our bags. After ...

The Return of the Backpackers

... travel colleague of mine calls,<br>"Gap Year Babies." These are the backpackers that I explained in my last blog<br>about, that just bring their culture wherever they travel to, stay in a hostel<br>for weeks, and waste time and money. Often, you meet ones that are not happy<br>either with where they are at. So move on damnit! By the 3rd day, though, I knew every aisle by heart and was sick of eating food from a can or cup o' noodles.<br><br>There were really no food options for me in the part of town we were staying except for a vegetarian restaurant and I had pretty much exhausted the menu after two visits. hehe I got the majority of my meals from the super market and just sort of pieced things together as ...

Kuala Lumpur - Old McDonald had a fast-food-chain

... earlier that day that certain roads looked like they were going to be blocked off, but we assumed it might have had something to do with the marathon. Tom and I ran down the stairs to join Chris on the street; who'd forgotten his camera, so had to run back up to the room and get it. I crossed over the road to get a better view and take some pictures, whilst Tom waited for Chris on the other side. A guy came over trying to sell my some glow sticks, but I refused. He was ...

... none of the colours blended, though. He also added a border of tan. Unfortunately, Pat and I had to leave before he was finished. But, while he was painting, I had a nice talk with other AFSers. Two others are changing families. One can't get along with her foster-mother, who is only seven years older, and the same age as her Australian sister. I don't know why the other is changing, but he doesn't have it too bad with his temporary home -- some millionaire ...
