Bodrum Peninsula, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey ronamaltz... Kings tombs carved into the cliff face walls before reaching turtle beach... Unfortunately we were too late in the season to see the females come up and lay their eggs or the hatchlings - but the beach was beautiful, clean white sand and ************e on it.. On the way back to the boat, I joined the tour group as we scouted around the pier looking for turtles that had been spotted earlier ...
Koycegiz, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey travellingjenI was really overdue my holidays, finally getting to take it in October and I just signed up to two weeks of not doing much in Turkey with a couple of friends in a group. For me though not doing much isn't my cup of tea so I took every chance to re-live my old Turkey memories, from food, sights, sea, dancing and ahem, yes the men, again :)
Please come back soon as I update all the stories from the two weeks. Thanks.
... There have been quite a few places I have been and been grateful for the big and small things I am used to - whether it be a well prepared meal, a western style toilet or even just people able to speak English. I think the problem starts when an area actively TRIES to be a tourist haven.
In this case the local shops all stop trying to be pleasant shops of whatever culture or vibe they might normally choose, but instead try ...
... All of the sudden I was not feeling lack. The sadness was gone and a gentle knowing that everything is just fine the way it came like a breeze into my awareness.
Yesterday evening, sitting on a park bench near the harbor, I was finally able to engage in Savitry Breathing, a calming rhythmic breath (inhale for 8 count, hold for 4, exhale for 8, inhale for 4) which I couldn’t get myself to maintain in the past few weeks. Ten minutes into it and Savitry ...
Awoke near Pamukkale and paid a scandalous amount to get in. 10 pounds each to see some tepid pools of water. Even the initially striking karstic rock was pretty much covered in faint brown footprints. The extorsion didn't end there as it turned out that Cleopatra's Baths, the hot spring at the top was an additional cost. We thought we could get away with just paying for one of us to get in and then swapping the ...
Marmaris, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey davechrisdamo... arrived at. Only the head of each family could attend the theater, and each family was roughly 10 people in those days.
According to our guide, the practice of clapping was derived in Pergamum (yes, clapping comes from Turkey...):
"My dear guests, see back in the days of the Roman empire, no one could leave the theater until the emperor had left. One time the emperor Hadrian, as in Hardian's Wall, my dear friends from Britain, he came to visit Pergamum ...
... or travel agents. I noticed that many of the travelers got different prices for this trip. - It seems that they liked us !!?
This time we did not choose a speed ferry. We thought it is not worth it since the weather is good, no wind and we want to enjoy most of the trip on board. Besides it is so nice getting a seat up the deck and enjoy the sun and the fresh sea breeze covering our whole body!
With just 39 euro the two of us, can visit a ...
... the Lycian Way, itself, would continue in an east direction, for on a previous visit to Kas I had hiked the segment east of Kas. I didn't realize that I was actually at the segment end of the trail coming to Kas from the west.
As a consequence, I bushwhacked through the loose rock and thorn bushes, only to rejoin the trail near the top. I thought that was ironic.
The other irony was that I had bought the Lycian Way guide book the day before but hadn't gotten around ...
... us wanted to see another tourist beside those of us on our boat. The captain said it was deep enough to dive or jump off the rock face, so sure enough I climbed up the 30ft rock and jumped off. Everyone marveled in my bravery as they all nixed the idea themselves; except Daniel who attempted to jump, but once at the top freaked out and came down with his tail between his legs. Leave it to the ex-spring board diver to be the daring one. Later on that afternoon I ended up doing dives ...
