Some great cycling in Izu Hanto

A travel blog entry by velojim-japan

Distance: 77.6 km
Elevation: 1,552 metres

Just when I thought I had left the mountains behind me for some easier cycling around the Izu Hanto, I was pulled back in by the lull of a coastal route which eventually led to an inland route with a significant climb. In fact, the day's elevation gain rivaled the climbs of the big mountains of the previous week. However, the ...

A Truly Memorable Experience (Climbing Fuji-San)

A travel blog entry by james_ramshaw

... but, considering I wasn't anticipating the climb to take any longer than 7 hours, it was too early to begin. I grabbed myself some hot food, some gloves and the obligatory wooden stick to get stamped and waited out until I felt it was time to start. You can still climb from the very bottom of the mountain but ************e actually does this, with 99% of people opting to start at the 5th station at whichever of the four routes they have chosen to take. ... it wasn't the summit, and so it proved to be. It was station 9.5, which seems a particularly cruel joke. I half expected to come up against station 9.75 and 9.99 before we got to the top!

The stunning hike of Mt Fuji

A travel blog entry by jarcher106

... Fuji. We were chuffed to reach the bottom by 4:46pm, 7h36m after departing and just 20 minutes quicker than the estimated time (but we did stop for short breaks!). As we hurried to the bus stop we were dismayed to find the 5pm didn't run for some reason, so we didn't need to rush after all! We dozed in the sun and got the 5.30pm bus back to Fujinomiya station and connected to the train to Fuji. Tom was exhausted and a little nauseous, perhaps from the altitude, however ...

Three Walks (FUJI, Mount Aso and Mituse Toge Yama)

A travel blog entry by hatandtubbz

... For the most part it felt a bit like we were walking on mars - red rocky gravel all the way down; there was no mistaking this was a volcano and not a mountain we were decending!

By now it was morning and fatigue was setting in which made it a struggle, but like so many times when we have made the extra effort, nature gave us our reward... the clouds parted and the three of us were gifted with some of the most incredible views we have ever ...
