... Puccini's, "La fanciulla del West". OK so we cheaped out, but, not being Opera buffs, this gave us a taste Opera without the cost. The English translation is, "The Girl of the Golden West". Now, Jack loves Puccini's operas, or at least the famous ones he is familiar with. But this one? A spaghetti western, in the worst sense. It takes pace in gold rush California. The heroine Minnie owns the camp saloon, and reads the bible to her 'boys'. The tough sheriff, Jack Rance, is in love with ...

... boars in the forest just off to one side of our path. One boar had four little ones rooting around with her. We read later that wild boars can be quite dangerous if they feel their young are threatened. Fortunately this mom seemed to feel that we were harmless. Karsplatz U1 station to the Schonbrunn Palace - which was the summer
palace of the Hasburgs. The palace itself is a grand design and a
      sprawling estate with ...

... in waiting for 2 hours until the next English tour, so we moved on to our next stop - Schonbrunn Palace. Just missing out on the strudel making class, we settled for the self guided audio tour of a few of the almost 1500 rooms (even though near the end it felt like we had gone through all 1, 441 rooms). Overall it was a beautiful Palace and worth the visit. Although it was mid-January and nothing was in bloom, we did a quick walk through the gardens. ...

... I want to see as much as I can while I am here. I know I will be coming back sometime, but for now I want to get a taste of as many countries as possible.

I am trying to take advantage of every opportunity this trip is offering me. To cut down on the cost of hostels we decided to try couch surfing in a few places. This will give us the chance to meet some locals and gain a better understanding of other ...
