Friday, we left Lake Bled in Slovenia and rejoined the motorway on which we had arrived to go northwards. After stopping at the services to purchase the required vignette we entered Austria via the impressive Karawanken tunnel. At 7864m long it is one of the longest we have used this trip. We were soon driving through typical alpine scenery with the hillsides dotted with chalet buildings bedecked with floral balconies, which were set amidst lush green ...

This morning after fried eggs we wandered the town for a bit waiting for Jess' shoes to dry in the sun at the hostel, and visited the gondola lift we would later use to start our walk. The lady operating the ticket desk told us, when she finally understood Jess' question, that on the Grand Mountain Hut Walk, the huts (which sell food and drinks) operate using the same hours as the chairlifts. We just ordered standard burgers, where were damn tasty, but they also have a "challenge burger" for 17 Euro - if you finish it unassisted you get it for free. Apparently the burger is about 1 foot in diameter and comes with an equally big bucket of chips: the rules are you have to finish both. The waitress said ...

... ride made up for the fiasco and provided a different look on Salzburg and the surrounding countryside. I grabbed a bite to eat before the tour and ended up buying a whole container of Nutella... I don't know why I bought it (duh because it's liquid chocolate gold) especially when it weighs a lot. I walked around Berchtesgaden for a little bit and saw the whole town. I can see why the Nazi elite retreated to this mountain side. The tour was quite ...
