The last day in the Wengen area, we thought we might try going to the top of the big mountain, the Jungfrau. But the day dawned cloudy, and it looked like the mountain top might be cloudy all day. So off we went to find another adventure.

Well here we go – a bit adventurous today – catching the high speed train to Switzerland. After our transfer to Gare de Lyon (Paris railway station), we battled with the crowds, the language and the systems until we worked out where we were to be, at what time, and to catch which train and we were off – sometimes at 315 km per hour. ... soup and Slasher had a risotto. Not wonderful, but the owner is an ex-South African and she was very friendly, so we were happy.

Still raining! The valley is in whiteout mode and apparently the rain is forecast to continue. ... and onions.... mm mmm. We met two Swiss guys, Marco and Martin who spoke very little English. I did however, manage to have an hour long conversation about football.... The International language. They were dressed as Swiss alpinists. Great fancy dress outfit. The rope that connected them was hilarious. They then took us too dinner, apparently that is the done thing. We continued to drink and eventually left for home. Really good first ...

... and taking of course many photos. The first settlement was as early as 2,500BC. The streets in the late-medieval Old Town are paved with cobblestones and if we get a chance in the next few days we will visit the castle which houses a museum of medieval artifacts.
