... the two hour trip to Hitachiota city to visit civilization. We became experts at one of the arcade claw games in town (you move an arm around and try to grab stuffed toys, chocolates, and other prizes). We also visited the AEON grocery store, and perused the ice cream aisle every visit (there are no real slurpees in Japan, so ice cream is our backup).
Our hosts did take us out for a meal at Genki Sushi which is a chain of conveyor belt ...

... fun. And drinking continued until 4:30am when half of us decided to go home. We stayed up chatting until the rest of them got home at 7am and then went to bed until 10am. So Saturday was spent recovering and taking a lovely walk to Omiya Park to see the shrine, the very depressing zoo (I almost cried seeing the lonely hyena in his concrete cage) and then off for soba noodles for dinner. Sunday we went exploring around Omiya station, explored the shops and had lunch at ...

... was this speed/reaction based card game which was quite fun (also the reason the blog is going up a bit late - expect it to happen again :p)
Apparently the prefecture north of us had a metre of snow today and lots of cars got trapped, but it was actually quite warm here/Mito. I STILL LIVE IN HOPE!
Meeting the mayor tomorrow and doing a tea ceremony as well. Will report back tomorrow. :)
