Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern Lucerne

As is the case for my travels, so far the trip has been busy, busy, busy! But before I get to the sightseeing, here's just a little about the journey to our final destination, Lucerne. Our flight that was supposed to take off at 6:50 didn't take off until after 8:00 p.m...but that's not highly unusual I guess. Hit a few bumps already-not major ones though. As we left the hotel it still wasn't raining yet, in fact there were even some patches of blue sky. So I suggested we attempt the trip up to the top of Mt. Pilatus, Lucerne's iconic mountain overlooking the city and the lake. So we walked back to the train station and got our tickets from the Tourist Information Center. There were three legs to the journey: the first was to take a bus, #1 toward Kleinesheidigg. After the short bus ride, we had a little walk up a hill and then caught the cable...

After experiencing Pilatus, we arrived back at the train station and proceeded across the Kapellbrucke, an icon of Luzern. We observed the 17th century panels above on the inside of the bridge, which, like many buildings and monuments in Luzern, had been destroyed by fire and then had replicas put in their place. Before heading out to explore the rest of the city however, we made our way back to our hotel where our room was now ready for us. We were led to our room and proceeded to be amazed....

When we left Grindenwald for Lucerne, the rain finally caught up with us. It was a bit rainy the day before, but it was late in the afternoon and not really a nuisance. The rain did create some neat cloud effects on the hillsides and I took a few pictures of that through the bus window.

Lake Lucerne is a lovely town. Tauck arraigned a walking tour of the old town. In 1330, the Chapel Bridge was built as a defensive bridge. On the rafters are paintings that were, at that time, our equivalent of a sponsor. Prominent families or guilds would pay and have their painting hung. The paintings were there for 400 years and then 100 years ago, there was concern about damage and they were replaced with copies and the original removed.
