... hand at an ariel assault course....he came back a shell of his former self after 3 hours in the trees hanging from bits of wire and trying to keep up with 9 year old girls who were more agile than him..for my penance I had to play pitch and putt with Lauren using carved putters and wooden balls..no danger i'll be joining a golf tour anytime soon.
Definitely worth a visit in winter for you keen boarders out there.
... at our B&B, although the lady running it was kind of strange. She did let us use their grill though and gave us good breakfasts. And when we left she gave us a big bag of salt. There is a huge salt mine right down the road, so we are guessing it has something to do with that. We met a nice older couple from England while we were here and they even gave us a ride to the train station when we left. The good comes with the bad usually.
Berchtesgaden, Bavaria, Germany unbound... through Berchtesgaden is an amazing colour, like blue-green-white. When you look into it, it is absolutely clear. Berchestgaden is a very pretty little town. After walking up and down a couple streets, we had a sandwich and some Cokes for lunch at a little deli. It was good to tide us over until supper but not too filling. With no further shopping prospects, we rested in our car until it was time to meet for ...
Berchtesgaden, Bavaria, Germany kveeti... legs began to whimper and ask whether it wasn't time to gently ride back to base for a nice, cold beer. However, they quickly came to their senses and marshalled themselves for the coming onslaught: a long, hard fire road climb up 9 long switchbacks. Bigger than anything in South East England, for sure. The reward was worth it: a long singletrack descent with lots to offer in ...

Back up for another run at Flying Gangster without falling off, but by now the weather was closing in and it looked as though I was pushing my luck to try another run.
On the way home, we stopped off and did some shopping. We stayed in and cooked Krapfern, slow-roast tomatoes and roast sausage, which was excellent, and yoghurt for dessert, all locally-produced except the toms.
Another lovely farm-fresh breakfast. We had bought 2-day lift passes for Skiwelt so spent a second consecutive day there. Katie used the lifts and went walking along the top from above Scheffau toward Ellmau then down the funicular railway there.
Keith and I took the lift up from Scheffau. A lovely, blue, sunny day. The nature of the riding took a significant step up today. We practiced ...
They even have a special word for the rain that falls in Salzburg - it's something like Schnurlregen - but I'd have to find my Austrian book to check the spelling. Well, that was my fear for my holiday! And here we were, landed in Salzburg, and guess what? rain!
Luckily by the time we'd waited for the passengers from Glasgow to arrive so that our coach could leave it'd stopped raining - so it couldn't have been that special Salzburg rain that ...
what a much better day! we got up, had some breakfast, then made a late appointment to get on the 'Eagle's Nest' tour, up high in the mountains (just over the border in Germany). This was Hitler's second major command post, and his summer retreat. after that, we visited the fortress that overlooks the town (cable car ride up and back) and wandered around the town, taking in the ...
Salzburg, Austria justandlyndalAugust 26-Monday
We left Kitzbuhel at 8:30. There was a brief stop in Berchtesgarden, in Germany, at 10:00. Up on the side of the mountain, we could see Hitler's Eagle’s Nest. It was rather chilling to see that part of history. The bunker is now a restaurant. Our rest stop overlooked a valley filled with wonderful homes. What a view! Back on the bus and on to Salzburg. Time 10:35.
... The only sound we heard was that of the cowbells. It was a bit eerie. Since the view was not the greatest at that moment, I decided to do a bit of mountain climbing (or mountain walking, if you will). I headed over to the Alpine Flower Garden. This mountain climbing is not as easy as you would think. (Or I could be that out of shape.) The garden wound its way along the side of the mountain. I got to see many different varieties of mountain flowers ...
