They block off the dam to fill up behind them with water, then release the water to get the logs downstream. We don't think they are used any more however.     ... over the lakes. Had a bit of a rest at the top, now bathed in sunshine and set off along the track. There was a cafe/bar where there were a group of cyclists enjoying a beer, at 10.30 am.
