... After some arrival drinks, it was time for the wood cutting. Tina and Helge had to cut through a log with a two-person saw. After trying three different saws, eventually they made it through. There seem to be a lot of wood fires/BBQs here, so I guess this is a vital skill for Austrian newlyweds! During the night, Helge mysteriously disappeared, followed by the mysterious disappearance of Tina. Apparently it is part of tradition to "kidnap" the bride and take them down ...
... the city and toured the opera house which was a highlight. We got caught in the rain walking back to the hotel, but it wasn't cold. Last night was also a highlight with dinner at a Austrian tavern in the woods followed by a Strasse orchestral concert that included dancing and some opera singing. It was held at a concert hall not the opera house. The opera season is not currently on in the opera house during July and August so I will just have to come back ...
... that it was the Wurzen Pass at 3520 feet. The road was steep (see photos) and at one stage some one past me carrying a huge circular backpack (see photo). The only saving grace of this pass was that it was reasonably short. After 4 kilometres we were at the top and crossing in to Austria. A quick stop at a cafe just over the border for a hot chocolate and to look at an old American tank then it was a monster ride down. We stopped at one stage to take ...
... quality. One chilli salami and 6 pastries later, we continued our wandering. Slug needed socks, so a €1 was all we needed to get the job done. Once we found Benetton, we were convinced that we would be a more stylish beaver and slug upon return to Australia. Then we found a shop that we could have lost beavers mum in for hours.... All things cake and chocolate. Wow!! Deciding it was time to go we legged it back to the car before we bought our body weight ...
