Cheryl and I were up early on Sunday morning. We each packed an overnight backpack, grabbed some breakfast (same great food and same ****** music), stored our luggage (we were returning to Vienna on Monday), checked out of our hotel and were on a train to Melk (in the Waccau Valley) by 8:30. Just over one hour later, we were standing on the …

Awake this morning to a rather overcast & cooler morning but pleasant & no rain. Arrived in Durnstein earlier than expected at a little after 7am. Breakfast & out for a short stroll through this village that dates back to the 12 th century where Richard 111 was imprisoned up on the ruined castle on the hill. Left at 11am for Melk. A beautiful cruise through the Wachau valley with small villages, ruins & vineyards seen along the way as the blue sky ...

It was a lazy morning for us. The walking tour of Durnstein was not scheduled until ten. Bruce and Pawp planned to sleep ...

The Folan sisters (by the way the staff now calls us "the sisters") were off to explore bright and early. We docked at Durnstein.....a small quaint town at the curve in the Danube. The ruins of the Castle where Ric*************heart was imprisoned for at least a million years is located here. Maureen said she thinks she saw him in a picture she took. It was so so cold (actually only in the ...

... to Melk along the Wachau Valley taking in the world heritage villages along the Danube. Seeing lots of vineyards in the steep sides of hills using rocks to make the terraces keeps the ground warm and aids growth (photo). Main product is Riesling, Guner Veltliner and Apricot Brandy.

Will dock in Melk overnight with a chance to self explore this afternoon before Christmas Eve dinner ...
