Michaela here ... Brrrrrr.... We made it into historic Salzburg after only a 2 hour train trip from Munich. Immediately we were hit with a fresh blast of chilled air, still no snow, but it gave us an excuse to whip out the jumbo jackets. Welcome to Austria! (Michaela learns slightly later than she should, that we are in fact no longer in Germany even though they still speak German...) We waddle over to our hostel with our mini homes on our back, and ...
We woke up in Innsbruck this morning with a few bruises - the beds were under a tilted ceiling and both my dad and I hit our heads a few times. There was free breakfast served which was wonderful! Once we checked out we had to make our way back to the parking garage and figure a way to get out of there. It was a tight squeeze but we made a pretty good team. I wish we could have spent more time in Innsbruck ...
... at a local chocolate and coffee shop to get some original Mozart Chocolate (the real stuff is made only in Salzburg. Another company took the idea and mass produced it to sell around the world but this kind was a local specialty). While it was good, personally I didn't think it was anything to brag about for over a Euro a piece, but at least I can say I tried it!
I didn't realize how massive the Fort was ...
... we. After a bitt of walking round in circles we eventually found the right path by a bench. And we were off! We kept crossing paths with the girls all day! After a longish walk we found lake Ebrnsee which was lovely. Lots of naked Germans/Austrians though- sunbathing and swimming. We stayed for quite a while then backtracked a bit and went up a peak- Marienkopfl. That was lovely. 1014m high and great views. In retrospect at this point we should have gone back the way we came- ...
... for delicious authentic Austrian dinners and entertained Verena with our determined German pronunciation and comprehension of the menus. I was glad to see that I didn't leave the Salsa dancing and sassy spinning men behind in Spain, when Verena took us to a random party filled with this scene.
So far this city has been my favourite Austrian location, it just had all the charm and wow to bring my imagination to life.
