... The caverns were magnificent, some nearly as big as a football field. Ice on the floors, walls, even an ice tunnel which we had to clamber through. No photos were allowed, so the picture is one from a postcard. One where I was particularly proud of myself for not freaking out! Dont do well underground, or tight spaces. We were 1km within the mountain, and 400m underground, and at that point, climbing DOWN the ice tunnel. ...

Perhaps I should have listened to my new found friends in Innsbruck as they asked me for the tenth time to stay some more days with them. There was rain in the air. ... customers. He only kept 3 local beers, which made Pauls choice easier. Next thing you know, Paul's committed to a weiss wurst and pretzel to balance the weiss bier! Well, thats probably not quite fair, as the description of the locally made wurst was definitely appealing, and I was happy to share his plate. Good choice.

Fortunately dinner was just down the road, next door to our pension.

We were not allowed to take pictures inside the cave but this is what we saw! When the tour was over we hiked back down the mountain and went straight to our hostel to get dinner and watch the Sound of Music before our tour ...

... the town where, low and behold, they were holding a BEER FESTIVAL with a live brass band, Austrian food, and benches and tables set up in the main square. For a change, Andy was unfussed about the beer, but I had the most delicious wine I’ve tasted since arriving in Europe (Belgium, Germany and Czech Republic are not so great with reds) from Portugal of all places!
