... as it rained quite heavily for a short while. Set off when it eased and soon it stopped. We really have been quite lucky with the rain today as we got to see the ravine and upper part of the valley before the mist came in and obscured it. ... the original viaduct that still carries three brine pipes, the track became even more beautiful. There were the many autumn leaves on the floor, but also great views to the lake and overhangs along the way. Just lovely, and level! Decided to walk to the funicular rather than down the hill, but it was a rather steep climb up many steps. On to St Gilgen set on Lake Wolfgangsee, where we waited for the bus on Friday. Had afternoon tea, then walked along the lakeside to our accommodation. ... br> We had our cabbie let us off at the far end of the village and we wandered back through so I could stop at the bank. We had decided to grab some lunch and then catch “Stephanie” back to the train station for the train trip to Bad Ischl and then the bus trip to Salzberg.
