The owner, another Stefan, has a solution for my tyre problem. He has a foot pump that I can use to get enough air in to see me to a small garage and repair shop in the next village along. In such a remote location, the guy there will certainly knows all about fixing tyres.

... road in Europe. The narrow road meandered up the edge of the valley and gave distant glimpses of snowy mountain peaks. As the road ascended through village settlements they grew less and less frequent and the occasional local acknowledged my slow 50 km an hour speed through their villages. Today we had a 20.1km climb at 5.5%. It was overcast but thankfully the rain held off until we were arriving at the campsite. Our SPOT tracker has died today, so unfortunately shows us still in Guilestre! We plan to carb load now as have a huge day tomorrow up the Cime de la Bonette (2802m), a 23.1km climb at 6.5%. Yikes. Also saw our first sign to the finish line in Nice ...

... hour ahead of the estimated time for the slowest rider. Timing stops at this point for the descent, and I seem to be ahead of my usual riding buddies, so I take my time to eat and much as I can, plus a couple of energy gels for good measure then head off to tackle the hairy descent. It's not too bad - like Cotter Rd when the road works were being done. Just there is 21km and a fair few switchbacks to handle. At least the blokes aren't ...
