... find one either. The lady we bought our first treat from was delightful! We had planned to go out for dinner but changed our minds at the last second and decided to get fresh pasta and sauce from her store instead. So we headed back to the pasterria a second time. Welcoming us back in with a warm smile and a friendly "Caio" we made our first real attempt at communicating in Italian. The entire scene was priceless. Basically we wanted fresh pasta, a sauce, something to go with ...

... pass we go, Into a world of unknown. The climb begins with the usual switchbacks and steep corners, burning muscles and constant sweat dripping down our backs. I tell Kory that I'm nervous and feel intimidated but am mentally prepared this time to tackle this pass. ... hour ahead of the estimated time for the slowest rider. Timing stops at this point for the descent, and I seem to be ahead of my usual riding buddies, so I take my time to eat and much as I can, plus a couple of energy gels for good measure then head off to tackle the hairy descent. It's not too bad - like Cotter Rd when the road works were being done. Just there is 21km and a fair few switchbacks to handle. At least the blokes aren't ...

    ... sense of accomplishment.

We continued our descent into Saint Dalmas Le Seivage, (at 4,500 Feet) and while the village looked inhabited, there was no one around. Where was everyone? We later discovered that from about 2 to 4 or 5 pm) everyone was in their homes having lunch and resting. There was nothing of interst that we could see, so continued on our way, making our second ascent of the day ...
