... entire two weeks that not a single person approached us to offer to take our snap, despite there being more people around than at the top of any col we had passed through. We had to make do with a selfie.

We arrived at our destination for the final two days of our tour, La Villa Victor Hugo, which is a small 3* hotel. The receptionist let us bring the tandem into the hotel and by dropping the wheels out we were able to squeeze the tandem into the ...

... climb to Roubion, towards our chambre d'hôtes for the night.

We couldn't quite remember why we booked a hotel that was 8 km from the road we wanted to be on in the morning, up an 8% climb. This was a major mistake in our planning. Usually 8 km is nothing, but up the side of a mountain it becomes a major commitment.

As usual, there were quite a ...

... hour ahead of the estimated time for the slowest rider. Timing stops at this point for the descent, and I seem to be ahead of my usual riding buddies, so I take my time to eat and much as I can, plus a couple of energy gels for good measure then head off to tackle the hairy descent. It's not too bad - like Cotter Rd when the road works were being done. Just there is 21km and a fair few switchbacks to handle. At least the blokes aren't ...

    ... sense of accomplishment.

We continued our descent into Saint Dalmas Le Seivage, (at 4,500 Feet) and while the village looked inhabited, there was no one around. Where was everyone? We later discovered that from about 2 to 4 or 5 pm) everyone was in their homes having lunch and resting. There was nothing of interst that we could see, so continued on our way, making our second ascent of the day ...
