... wonderful villages up near the top that mainly service the ski traffic in winter and summer hikers. Two km from the summit of Col du Mollard is one such village, Albiez-Montrond. It can been seen in the pic from the summit view and where I filled my bidons.

Woke up with high hopes of an early ride today looked out the window and could not believe how far down the mountain the cloud had rolled. Climbing big Cols was out of the question.

We took an early morning trip St Jean de Maurienne to stock up on supplies and have a coffee and croissant. The weather started getting worse so it was time for bread, cheese, salami and wine.

... between my legs I returned to Annecy to pack up and make our way to the Maurienne Valley and the heart of the big Alps climbs.

To rub salt into my wounded ego the SD card in the camera played up so I lost all my pics of the short 50km ride today. Oh well re-format and away we go again.

We visited Albertville, sight of the 1992 winter Olympics and St Jean de Maurienne on our way to St Michel de Maurienne where we will base ourselves for the next week.

Parlez Vous Parking Fines?

... to pay our parking fine. 35€ for parking on the footpath while the medieval fete was on. I finally found it and my "Parlez-Vous Anglais" met with a resounding "Non!" Oops. This was going to be fun. Anyway, we got there. They could only accept a French cheque. I didn't have one. I hadn't go to a tobacconist in town and buy a stamp which covered the fine then stick it on and post it in. All in sign language and my touch of French. ...

... the tree line there was nothing to stop the wind which mostly came from behind. While it was helping my climb, it didn't help the cold creeping up my back, so I put the rain jacket back on. The last 6 kilometers was truly hell. The rain was really building up, at times becoming snow and hail, and there were gusts of wind so hard I was actually thrown over.
