We've left Lourmarin with some sorrow, but soon perked up when we got into the Alps. It's been a perfect day, the trees are turning Autumn colours and although it's 26 degrees there's snow on the high tops. Briancon has this amazing fort built to keep the Italians out many years ago. Tomorrow we go over the mountain to Italy toward ...

The weather had been okay in Paris, I mention the weather as I was hoping it was going to be good so that we'd see the impressive French/Italian Alps. As we headed past the flat agricultural fields of France the clouds started showing up, last year we'd been lucky to see how impressive the alps were but I had a feeling we werent going to be so lucky this time. By late afternoon we were able to venture out on the bikes to assess the damage to the coastline here. There was lots of debris washed up on the shore,.. very different beaches to those of a few days ago. Thursday saw a late start,.. clear blue skies,.. and bloody hot,.. again! A bike ride and a quiet lunch at one of the many seaside ...

Today we went up and over the Col d'Izoard (2361m). The guidebook implies it is an easy day as it it's just 9.4km at 4.2% followed by 10.1km at 7.5%. But it was anything but. On day 8 our legs are tired so it felt bloomin hard work, but it was worth it as it is a stunning route. We have done it before from the ...

The title says it all! Today we cycled from Valloire to Briancon over the Col du Galibier (2646m). The weather was against us pretty much all day, as we woke to pouring rain forcing us to drag everything inside and practically take over the sites shower block! We left several hours later with just croissants and pain au chocolats in our stomach. The climb up to the col was a relentless 17.5km at 7%, so blood ...
