Dorf= Village
We traveled to Wolfbrittel today on the 420 bus, which is an adorable little village (Dorf) right outside of Braunschweig! Went to the Jägermeister plant they have there. It was a fantastic tour! They are so efficient, well organized and thorough with the entire process. There are so many quality checkpoints from the ingredients and then during the ...
Went to Salzgitter today which is about 20 minutes southwest of Braunschweig by bus. We went sort of early in the morning to get there. We listened to a company member talk about what the plant does and how the process works. Then we saw a 10 minute film about his explanation that was pretty cool. What type of steel they produce, what materials they use, what forms they produce and who they sell to (countries).
Then we got to put on cool ...

The hotel is fabulous (gotta love booking via the net!) and right on the town square reconstucted after the town centre was bombed flat in 1945. Pics will be great.
Hildesheim is the birthplace of my Great Grandfather ( dad's mum's dad) so it's a special place to visit for us.
Now grabbing pizza and trying to find WiFi we can hijack.

Goslar, Lower Saxony, Germany valdellobin... finger on why. I think for me, it's that in Germany everything--and when I say everything, I mean everything, including the trees in the "forests"--is so orderly. Everything is in its place here. I tend to prefer the wild and unpredictable landscapes of the national parks in U.S. or Costa Rica, and even the less than well-planned sprawling urban cities of the States. And, who am I kidding? I much prefer the relaxed approach to the ...
Goslar, Lower Saxony, Germany moppet77In April 2008 there would be an International week. In that week professors from all over the world came to teach some courses at our University. Unfortunately there were not enough courses for everybody, so you had to be fast. The list, were we had to sign in were put in the hall one week before the courses started. It was 9.00 am at Monday when I went to University ...

Wernigerode, Germany v1213... all agreed that it was such a shame that our ICE leg was so short, we want more! Our next change, in Leipzig, was more gen**ous at 25 minutes and that hadn't been diminished because our ICE had made up time from the late departure to arrive smack-bang on time. The station in Leipzig is a fantastic grand t**minus, featuring soaring masonary arches and high ceilings. I can't wait to spend more time in and around this complex when I stay in Leipzig with ...
Wernigerode, Germany v1213... Since this was the only effective way to get the mines dry, enormous efforts had been undertaken to build these tunnels. For example the 19 Lachter Stollen (one of the tunnels) is nearly 9 km long and it took 120 years, starting in 1525 to build it. The reason it took so long to build was because in those days they had no powder or dynamite to blast the rocks away. Every bit had to be cut out by hand with tools called 'schlagel und eisen' the hammer and miner's bar, which ...
