A flying visit to say a quick goodbye

I've just popped over to Malta for a day & a bit (as you do!) to say a quick hello / goodbye to my parents (and bring them lots of goodies over for the last time in a while).

The weather is a little warmer than the UK, but not as warm as it's going to be in a week's time (ha ha ha).

Anyway, I'll keep this blog short so ciao for now!

Anita x

... might have even had a slight sway to them. (He reckons that was just the roll of the ship! – or the eighty year old American lady that had a hold on him).

The Cabin steward knew the meaning of service, you could hardly leave the room before he was in again with replacement towels or tidying. Each night when the kids arrived back at their room he had made a white towel into some kind of animal. These workers get so little time off ...

The Malta "Experience"

... wake-up call, I carefully slouch as I sit up so I don’t bump my head against the ceiling. I climb down the ladder to go to the bathroom and this time I remember to lock the door before I start taking a shower. Still, Dad fidgets with the latch outside. "It’s urgent!!" he shouts.

By 8:00am the ship arrives in Malta while we are eating breakfast at the Garden Buffet. When I look through the window I see the sun ...

... and The Backstreet Boys. Hearing Karma Chameleon just doesn't seem right when the bus is rolling past 500 year old buildings with it's doors wide open and people close to being tossed out! Everytime the bus shifted gears I could feel the ancient transmission grinding under the metal floorboards. Being able to see the road through the floor was a special treat as well.

The ancient bus brought me to my first stop, the ancient city of ...

... way through the various harbours up to Valletta and then proceeded to drive all around the base of Valletta offering a wonderful view of the Grand Harbour and the defenses of the city. I decided my first stop would be at the Tarxien Temple. This temple complex is located near the Hypogeum to which I did not have tickets :( For those of you planning a visit, you should purchase your tickets to this World heritage ...

Late start

... hours of rest, watched Eagle Eye, and then stared out the window or watched the digital map as we flew over London and Cologne. Toward the end of the flight I started to feel really sick, so the whole time I spent in Frankfurt I was either in the bathroom vomiting or sleeping next to the gate. I did call my parents to let them know I was there which was ridiculously expensive, but worth it. Before getting on the plane from Frankfurt to Malta, I met Jessica ...

Last day in Malta.

... be pretty awesome! Other great things we saw were a presentation of photos taken by a British soldier during his commission to Malta during World War II. The damage sustained by the Maltese cities and the courage of the Maltese people were never more evident to me than through the photos and letters of that soldier. There was also some traditional Maltese music and dancing and a Christian band that had setup in one of the churches that we ...

... quick dip in the mediteranean, but couldn't stay in long cos it was too cold. We had lunch at a cafe overlooking Kalkara and Sangrea harbours, and whilst the view was spectacular, the food was *****! Just as we had been warned. The next day we headed to Gozo (where my grandfather was from) but started out too late in the day. It took over an hour to get to the dock, then half an hour by boat over there. Unfortunately, it was raining the entire time ...

... at the airports. Arrived at hotel about 9pm where we managed to have an evening meal. Unpacked everything and looked around the hotel and also have a few drinks. Wednesday 9th August - Went for breakfast and had the best omelette I have ever had. Ham and cheese has never tasted better than before and I must say that the chef who done the omelettes and fried eggs did it perfectly. Went to First Choice meeting at half 9 and had an introduction to what is to do ...
