Keylong – Kulu (160 km)

... conditions the ride was magic as we were ascending into the clouds that were sweeping across the top of the mountains. With big eagles soaring above and below, and the snow covered mountain tops peeking out above the clouds.

The rest of the downward journey once we got below the clouds was in a light drizzle, it dried almost a quick as it wet you. This continued until we go to Manali, when the rain started in earnest and the last 40 km to Kulu was completed in the rain

... the first hotel the taxi took us to the night before) and low and behold, they had rooms available! This place was seriously like a hundred times better than the **** hole we were forced into the night before. And it was 600 rs cheaper! And we had a really great view of the lake!! It was also owned by really nice, friendly Tibetans. Our room had a large double bed, a TV, and a hot shower. We couldn't have been happier. We got settled in and then headed out ...

... to the mountain path, and we started out feeling kind of daunted because it was seriously so exhausting climbing up there. But once we made it to the path things got a little better. It really was uphill the whole way, but the path zig zagged so that it wasn't too steep (at least for most of the climb). Also, the path almost entirely wound around on the side of the hill, so amazing views were to be had from almost every point. Every few kilometers we'd pass a tea stall ...

I went back to the hotel and put my computer away and then walked out into the city streets again. I bought a pretty bracelet for RS$100 and then went to this place called Punjab Dhaba restaurant . I had been planning on just sitting there and drinking a lemon soda before trying to meet with the others. While I was at my table waiting for my ...

... and Nangal was a very small city. Jan 3rd : Reached Old Delhi and found ourselves hobbling on cycle rickshaws to find an accommodation early in the morning. Once done, we visited the landmarks of Delhi i.e India gate, Rajpath, rashtrapathi Bhavan, parliament, Vijay Chowk and Humayun's tomb in the first half of the day as the 2nd half was allocated for shopping. All of us shopped as much as we could carry and then boarded our train back to Bangalore.

... the obvious challenges of the Himalayan terrain; and part of the journey was dealing with these trials, one by one. Perhaps the most important part of this trek was the fact that Nate reached the pass. That will be my most memorable experience, by far, as the entire group celebrated with snacks, Snickers bars, a South Indian holy ash tikka to the forehead, incense, silence, and throwing stones behind sheltering chortens. Our trek ...

Pure madness

Right, in the previous post i mentioned that we stayed in somewhat of a mad hotel, here is the tale of perhaps the most incredible stay in a hotel I;ve ever known. This hotel is not a quiet place, it's by no means a horrible place, but it's noisy, partly because that's just the way places are in India and partly because Indian people are not the quietest. This is by no means a derogitary statement but in a county that has a billion people it is difficult, i presume, to ...
