... the nearby Punta de Angamos, the site of a naval battle during the war of the Pacific. There is also loads to see in AF too, the Torre Reloj and some impressive murals depicting scenes from the mining days (something to which AF owes a lot of it existence to). We stayed in a hotel that night in Antofangasta, where everything seemed to be shut. There was an Italian place open that looked nice, but wasn't. I had a very weird pizza, actually it was so bad, I don't want to talk about it... Nobody went out that night, I was in a room with John, and we just watched some tv then went to bed. How sensible.

... la ciutat pero avorrir-nos com dues ostres a l'aeroport (hem esmorzat, dinat, tret calers al caixer, canviat dolars... i em recorregut l'aeroport unes tres vegades amunt i avall... no es gaire gran). Un cop arribem a Antofagasta, ningu ens esperava a l'oficina de lloguer cotxes, ens hagut d'esperar tres quarts d'hora... pero aixo si, ja el tenim (cap problema)... pero sense el permis per travessar a Argentina (l'haviem llogat per internet per tenir-lo nomes d'arribar ...

... Of course, we found a dodgy hotel, checked into a fly-infested pit of a room and cursed the day we set foot in this city.... Antofagasta.... the pit-stop on the way to the Atacama, where the houses are crumbling, the sea-shores filthy and the stench of rotten fish finds you wherever you walk. After finding a dead cat, mutilated upon the rocks we called it a night and vowed to leave first thing in the morning.

Later we arrived in Antafogasta to some excitement as the day before Daniel Craig (the current James Bond) had arrived in Antafogasta for filming of the latest James Bond movie. Unfortunately we didn't manage to spot him.
