The road to the Asfeld Bridge, built to allow communication between the Old Town and the Fort on the top of the next hill, is gravelled and steep. But we made it! It spans the Durance river gorge with a single arch nearly 60 metres high and is still considered an amazing feat of engineering.

Two Swiss guys packed up and left immediately, and the race organisers transported the others to the next host village and fixed them up with Mavic bikes so they could keep riding from Stage 4 with no time penalty.
