Hotel San Francisco de Quito

Hoi luitjes In Quito moet je kiezen tussen een verblijf in de 'oude stad' of in de 'nieuwe stad' op basis van een summiere beschrijving in de reisgids. De nieuwe stad heeft alle voorzieningen, de oude stad heeft sfeer. Wij hebben gekozen voor de sfeer, en die hebben wij gekregen. Alleen al het hotel was geweldig mooi, een oude koloniaal gebouw met een binnenpatio. De oude stad schittert van de kerken, kloosters en andere koloniale gebouwen. After a trip full of adventures (in which the bus broke and at 6 am we had to step out on the highway and wave to other buses getting to Quito) I finally arrived in the Ecuadorian capital. We arrived in Quito safely on Saturday night after 24 hours of travelling! Got a taxi to our hotel which was suprisingly easy to do and went straight to bed as we were exhausted! The hotel is set in a very attractive building and is clean and comfortable. We explored the old town of Quito yesterday which is right on our doorstep and is absolutely beautiful! We arrived in Quito on time on Tuesday night and went straight to bed. We stayed in the Old Town which is quieter, safer and more picturesque than the New Town. Had a walk around the Plazas and cathedrals on Wednesday morning then headed upto the Teleferico, a cable car that takes you 2.5kms up the side of Volcan Pichincha to a viewpoint over the city at 4100m, very scary! the sky cleared long enough to get some good pictures. I finally made it! After leaving Sydney on Thurs AM, I arrived, 26 hours and 3 flights later, in Quito - the capital of Ecuador and my first stop on this grand adventure. I hardly know where to begin. My brain (and my body) are so sluggish. Maybe it´s the altitude (although it´s only 2800m it´s the highest I think I´ve been for more than a few hours).
