Quito

Quito

So, I´ve made it to Quito after an eventful layover in Atlanta where I discovered that it´s actaully cheaper and easier to see a doctor in the airport than to try to speak with my own doctor at the Cleveland Clinic (Boo to the CC)!  So, I landed in Quito last night were a nice man named Raphael was waiting for my plane and took me on a little tour of the city before dropping me off at the hotel.  The hotel is fine for a budget hotel, it´s safe, there are no bugs, just a little noisy. On a sid...

Quito

After a trip full of adventures (in which the bus broke and at 6 am we had to step out on the highway and wave to other buses getting to Quito) I finally arrived in the Ecuadorian capital. After about an hour and a lunch of noth that desired company of a Bolivian (arrived in Quito with business, but that still had some free time, that, unfortunately for me he tought to be a good idea to share it with me), I finally got to discart him and mind my business the way I like it... I know that I sai...

Quito

We arrived in Quito safely on Saturday night after 24 hours of travelling! Got a taxi to our hotel which was suprisingly easy to do and went straight to bed as we were exhausted! The hotel is set in a very attractive building and is clean and comfortable. We explored the old town of Quito yesterday which is right on our doorstep and is absolutely beautiful! Being a Sunday, all of the locals were out in their traditional Ecuadorian Sunday best going for a wonder! At first we were a little nerv...

First stop Quito!

We arrived in Quito on time on Tuesday night and went straight to bed. We stayed in the Old Town which is quieter, safer and more picturesque than the New Town. Had a walk around the Plazas and cathedrals on Wednesday morning then headed upto the Teleferico, a cable car that takes you 2.5kms up the side of Volcan Pichincha to a viewpoint over the city at 4100m, very scary! the sky cleared long enough to get some good pictures. The next day we went to ´Mitad del Mundo´, the centre of the eart...

Bienvenido a Quito

I finally made it! After leaving Sydney on Thurs AM, I arrived, 26 hours and 3 flights later, in Quito - the capital of Ecuador and my first stop on this grand adventure. I hardly know where to begin. My brain (and my body) are so sluggish. Maybe it´s the altitude (although it´s only 2800m it´s the highest I think I´ve been for more than a few hours). Maybe it´s the jet lag. Maybe it´s the fact that I was completely exhausted before I even left home. Probably a combination of all 3. I am feel...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Hotel San Francisco de Quito

Un excellent hôtel de tourisme

from Vivica

Excellent, charming old hotel in Quito's historic center. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful. The hotel provides a lot of services that are indispensable to travelers and most are included in the nightly room rate. We traveled in Ecuador for 6 weeks and repeatedly came back to this hotel when going through Quito.

Ausgezeichnetes Reisehotel

One of our favorite hotels

My husband and I loved this hotel, and even added on three extra days. We had a beautiful room with lots of windows and were impressed by the services, amenities and non-chainlike decor.

from A TripAdvisor Member

Charm and Comfort at Hotel San Francisco de Quito

from A TripAdvisor Member
I'm an Autralian who had a great experience with the Hotel San Francisco de Quito in the old city of Quito. It is a beautiful colonial style building with many levels, each with little sun gardens and flowers. It was a charming mix of old and new. We actually stayed a week in the top floor apartment which had a full kitchen and views over the city.

After one week I discovered that they have a huge indoor spa and sauna room which was great for the chilly Quito nights. Downstairs is a quiet courtyard with a lovely restaurant.

I thought the old city was a much nicer to place to stay than the busy new city. It was much mellower, had a sense of character, and was close to all of the major churches and plazas.

The main reason that I've taken the time to review this hotel is my love for the family that works there. They looked after us like we were also family, including my 2 year old son who was running riot. On my second visit to the hotel I developed Malaria whilst my wife and son were out of town. One of the family came to the hospital and put her credit card down for me so that I could be admitted (I only had cash on me).

If you are heading or Quito and looking for a comfortable, charming place with great staff, the Hotel San Francisco is a great option.
