    ... depictions of Jesus blah blah blah, was the Meridian line. The inside of the Basilica was less ornate than I have become used to, it was actually quite plain.

    We had lunch at an Italian food court which was varied in choice - pasta, cold meats, cheese or cold meats, cheese and pasta or cheese, pasta and cold meats. We all shared one of each.

    ... and one of the staff had spent time in Dublin at Blackrock College, so spoke great English with an Oirish accent. Well, an Italian one anyway! The really cute thing was the Nativity Scene (Presep as they are called here) where all the figures were fashioned with wine corks and caps. And then we noticed the shelf full of other, everyday, characters made in the same way. Very cleverly done. Joy took photos which we'll put in when time allows.

    ... of the stalls of the Christmas street market. Now all he has to do is pack the dirty socks and then go round to the post office tomorrow again. Incidentally, Italian post offices are great places to see numerous breeds of dog. Why do people take a dog on a trip to the post office, where they surely know from experience they will have a long wait, and the dogs will bark and squabble?

    ... disappointing to be honest. Still we set off to find the National Gallery, which turned out to be about ten minute walk, and then went to lunch in a nearby cafe/bar as the gallery didn't open till two. Lunch was good and simple, but a bit pricey. We were tomdiscover though that this price is typical of Bologna. Ah well, can't have it all cheap you know! Then the gallery...
