... rubbish tip: a solid example of the beauty and the mess of India that you find completely intermingled - one doesn't seem to exist without the other. The day after a really heavy rainfall (when it was marginally less sticky) we walked up away from the coast into town and stumbled across "Halycon Castle" - looks like it was built in colonial times, but nobody there knew anything about it. Since there is no actual road to the hotel, we were greeted by a porter who diligently placed both our big bags on his head and escorted us through the little alley ways into a beautiful new and super clean guesthouse. The owner, Charles with whom I had dealt with earlier via email, greeted and showed us to our room. We spent a good part of the morning chatting to him about our travels ...

... fishermen's boats are lined up andwhere many Indian tourist stroll and enjoy the late afternoon breeze.

Then we see the two monuments in the sea; the 133-feet sculpture of the Tamil poet Tirruvalluvar and the Vivekenanda Rock memorial. Later we find out that they vary in colour
at different times of the day, and they are partly lighted at night. When we look out of our hotel window we can't escape them.
