... rubbish tip: a solid example of the beauty and the mess of India that you find completely intermingled - one doesn't seem to exist without the other. The day after a really heavy rainfall (when it was marginally less sticky) we walked up away from the coast into town and stumbled across "Halycon Castle" - looks like it was built in colonial times, but nobody there knew anything about it. The tide was coming in, lots of people frolicking in the waves. While I was standing on the beach, watching the water, an older Indian man stopped to talk to me. I believe he was speaking Malayalam, the language of Kerala. When my masseuses (Minnie, Sheeja and Gidu) are talking with each other, I like ...

... passages only 50m from the beach. Since there is no actual road to the hotel, we were greeted by a porter who diligently placed both our big bags on his head and escorted us through the little alley ways into a beautiful new and super clean guesthouse. The owner, Charles with whom I had dealt with earlier via email, greeted and showed us to our room. We spent a good part of the morning chatting to him about our travels ...
